Job Profile
The company is searching for a Drawing II Operator who will be required to coordinate, set up, and operate the drawing machine to draw various sizes of copper wire from feeder stock.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience
- Possess work-related experience (a plus)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Be able to examine wire to detect potential causes of breakouts
- Be capable of checking the concentration of the drawing solution
- Be capable of diagnosing problems with feeder stock
- Must be able to work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports
- Must be capable of measuring wire after the various dies to ensure the desired reduction is being achieved
- Must be capable of stringing up all wires in the proper position to ensure a properly constructed take-up package
- Must coordinate material handling with the lift driver to ensure a continuous production process
- Must make high-quality hot welds and cold welds in feeder stock in order to operate the machine continuously
- Must measure the elongation of each wire on each take-up package to ensure proper annealing
- Must monitor, evaluate and adjust various machine controls in order to produce quality wire at specified production speeds
- Must string up dies for wire-size changeovers and breakouts
- Put scrap into the designated scrap bins
- Responsible for a correct inventory of WIP tags daily
- Responsible for loading and unloading sets of bobbins/reels whether they are matched lengths or matched sets
- Responsible for maintaining a layer wound package
- Responsible for making all gear changes, traverse adjustments, and annealer settings
- Responsible for making all pay-off bobbin/reel changes and take-up reel changes
- Responsible for proper die set-ups
- Responsible for set-up and operation of multiwire drawing machine
- Responsible for weighing each take-up package prior to recording production
- Run correct wire sizes and correct lengths on the proper take-up package as specified on the production order
- Use non-deformed take-up and pay-off packages
Cross Training
- Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
- Will be required to cross-train on equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
- Will be required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
Quality Measures
- Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
- Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
- Perform quality checks, as outlined in the process procedures for the machine, and minor maintenance when necessary
- Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities
Safety Measures
- Follow all safety procedures and rules
- Responsible to observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
- Working safely is a condition of employment
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
- Must read, write, and speak English
- Bilingual in Spanish (a plus)
Work Environment
- Balancing, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate-control
