Job Profile

The company is searching for a Welder Repair Technician who will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, mechanical, and control functionality of welding equipment for Airgas and Airgas’s customers.

Repair engine drives, inverters, transformers, and automation equipment.

Maintain an inventory of parts and supplies, and maintain all required documentation, including tracking of all work hours for appropriate customer billing.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of prior related electrical and or electronics repair experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience using SAP (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Communicates by phone and in person with vendors, customers, sales staff, store managers, and others, providing information on repair times, ordering of parts and supplies, etc.
  • Communicates routinely with the manager on the job status, daily activities, and condition of equipment.
  • Completes all service orders in a neat and timely fashion and obtains the customer’s signature on the order before leaving the facility.
  • Maintains company-provided diagnostic equipment, tools, and other equipment in clean, good working condition and within the manufacturer’s recommendations. Properly locks and secures the equipment at the end of each day.
  • Maintains a database of and schedule of all calibrations and PMs on Airgas and Airgas’s customer equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of parts in the Airgas facility.
  • Travels to customer sites to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs, to perform routine/preventative maintenance (PM), and perform National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable calibration on all types of Airgas equipment and products, including, but not limited to –
  • Manual, robotic, and semi-automatic Pulsed Metal Arc Welding (GMAW-P), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) equipment, including many custom semi-automatic systems.
  • Orbital tube and pipe welding systems.
  • High-purity bulk and cylinder gas systems.
  • Integrated welding and motion control systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to plan a logical approach to troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend manuals, schematics, material safety data sheets, and instructions
  • Demonstrated dedication to product quality and customer satisfaction with the ability to represent Airgas to our customers professionally and courteously.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percents.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to complete handwritten compliance documentation neatly and accurately.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite applications and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Must have general mechanical aptitude.
  • Self-starter; self-motivated; operates with a sense of urgency; ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.

Work Environment

  • The environment may contain loud noises and/or odors that may last for an extended period of time or on a continual basis.
  • Frequent local travel (85% of work time).
  • The job requires visits to various Airgas and customer sites that have varying environments/conditions, layouts, and accessibility.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet customer needs and management expectations.
  • Must be willing to be away from home for customer service calls and certification schools approximately 10% of the time (estimate 2 days per month)
  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation and a valid US driver’s license.
  • Requires both indoor and outdoor environments in various seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 100 degrees.

Physical Demands

  • Able to detect leaking gas from cylinders.
  • Required to observe and assess equipment and information received via computer.
  • Frequently required to actively listen and exchange information.
  • Frequently required to traverse through manufacturing or other locations.
  • Regularly required to move up to 60 pounds and transport up to 800 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Regularly required to position oneself to equipment and ascend/descend.
  • Requires frequent use of a computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle.
