Job Profile

The company is looking for a Shop Technician who will repair, refurbish, and maintain engine-driven welding equipment and generators and ensure a safe working environment.

Education Level

  • Post-Secondary Education equivalent to a 1-year Technical College or equivalent (an asset)

Work Experience

  • 2-3 plus years of related technical experience

License/Certification

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assembles electric, diesel, gas, and propane equipment for rental. Tests and calibrates machines to see if they are functional for rent or sale.
  • Ensures a clean and organized work environment at all times.
  • Ensures a safe work environment by following Airgas/Red-D-Arc’s health and safety guidelines.
  • Inspects returned equipment for proper operation or damage by the customer.
  • Maintains communication with all branch personnel.
  • Occasionally advises customers regarding the best equipment for their projects.
  • Occasionally required to service equipment and customers off-site.
  • Operates a forklift, pallet jack, or other necessary equipment to stock required parts in the shop.
  • Order parts as required in order to complete repairs.
  • Prepares and completes paperwork for all machine repairs.
  • Repaints parts, touches up paint, and puts decals on welders to maintain the general appearance.
  • Repairs and refurbishes all Electric and Engine Drives.
  • Replaces defective parts and completes preventative maintenance required.
  • Performs other related duties.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions.
  • Attention to detail and solid organizational skills.
  • Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents.
  • Communicates with clarity, verbally in one-on-one or group situations, and over the telephone.
  • Working knowledge of power generating and welding equipment, welding applications, and equipment is an asset.

Work Environment

  • Exposed to noise, dust, and mechanical equipment
  • Follows strict safety procedures and wears PPE
  • May work regular shifts with occasional overtime
  • Performs field work as needed
  • Primarily works in workshops or manufacturing facilities
  • Requires standing, lifting, and the use of hand tools
