Job Profile

The company is searching for a Supplier Quality Engineer who will plan, support, and implement supplier quality programs in conjunction with the Corporate Materials Department to improve the quality of products purchased by the Company.

Evaluates, selects, and develops the supply base and assesses new supplier technology to obtain maximum quality and productivity levels.

Formulates or assists in formulating internal/external supplier quality control policies and procedures, and development of quality standards.

Imposes Corporate Quality standards on the supply base and ensures compliance.

Monitors and controls cost, timing, and other related aspects of projects.

Serves as a technical liaison and coordinates the activities of internal and external resources.

Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function, initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered.

Participates in quality planning during the launch phase of new products.

Champions continuous improvement efforts by leading supplier development projects/programs.

Researches, recommends, and supports the implementation of new or existing quality assurance processes of suppliers.

May supervise or provide work direction to other staff.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the engineering field with understanding of quality engineering practices, principles, processes, etc.; or equivalent.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in quality engineering, project/program management, or equivalent.
  • Must have thorough and complete knowledge of the respective field.
  • Must be broadly familiar with technologies, products, suppliers, and programs

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Champions continuous improvement efforts by leading supplier development projects/programs. Researches, recommends, and supports the implementation of new or existing quality assurance processes of suppliers. Engages in comparative and competitive analysis to ensure utilization of the most appropriate and beneficial techniques in each situation.
  • Formulates or assists in formulating internal and external supplier quality control policies and procedures, and development of quality standards. Imposes Corporate Quality standards on the supply base and ensures compliance.
  • Monitors and controls cost, timing, and other related aspects of projects tied to supplier quality. Understands and adheres to schedule and budgetary requirements of projects and reports progress as required.
  • Participates in quality planning during the launch phase of new products. Works with suppliers and Advanced Quality Engineering to develop Advanced Quality tools for suppliers during the development phase of a new product. Works with suppliers to support them in the Production Part Approval Process, leading to full approval of their product for production use.
  • Performs other duties as necessary. May supervise or provide work direction to other staff.
  • Plans, supports, and implements supplier quality programs in conjunction with the Quality strategy for the plant. Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads, and directs technical work and departmental efforts related to quality engineering activities to improve the quality of products purchased by the Company.
  • Provides quality engineering support by evaluating, selecting, and developing a supply base and assessing new supplier technology to obtain maximum quality and productivity levels. Reviews and audits supplier products, processes, or systems performance and provides suggestions for improvement.
  • Serves as a technical liaison and coordinates the activities of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function, initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered.
  • Understands and follows existing Magna policies, procedures, work instructions, and standards, and makes recommendations for continuous improvements.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to quality engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and recommend new suppliers, products, and processes. Must be able to initiate implementation of continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity to work on moderate to long-term assignments that are broad. Strong organizational, project management, and leadership skills to prioritize, coordinate projects, manage conflicting needs, and deal with many issues at one time. Must be able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts and professionally represent the Company when performing job duties.
  • Must be able to operate standard and specialized equipment related to the job. Strong computer background with ability to calculate and analyze data, generate reports, present information, etc.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed
  • Must be able to maintain alertness to their surroundings
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods
  • Must be able to travel within North America up to 50% of the time
  • Must maintain proper vision requirements
