Job Profile

The company is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer who will carry out a wide range of Quality Assurance activities at Leslie Controls in Tampa, Florida.

Support the business in the areas of new product development, lean implementation, process capability improvement, daily production support, project management, technical data interpretation/analysis (engineering drawings, specifications, technical publications, component maintenance manuals, purchase orders, etc.), and quality system management.

Education Level

  • BS Engineering with 7+ years of experience in a quality-related field.
  • Masters of Science in Engineering (a plus)

Work Experience

  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive quality systems and process quality experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on Supplier Quality Development.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing in a high mix, low volume environment (a plus)

License/Certification

  • US Citizen

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement of product and process quality
  • Comply with all company policies/procedures
  • Comply with all military and contractual requirements
  • Conduct and participate in quality system, process, and product audits
  • Create statistically valid control plans for manufacturing processes
  • Develop process flow charts/diagrams and process failure mode and effects analysis reports
  • Drive manufacturing process capability improvements through variation reduction, error-proofing, and implementation of statistical process control
  • Key quality representative on new product introduction teams responsible for contract review and driving design-for-quality on new product introduction teams
  • Manage the major program manufacturing process qualification
  • Manage supplier quality and provide support for supplier quality development
  • Participate in the Material Review Board and the Configuration Control Board
  • Perform product reliability studies
  • Provide leadership on problem-solving teams to drive root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plans
  • Provide a quality witness on the teardown of customer returned material
  • Provide technical leadership to the inspection team members
  • Support product/process certifications and approvals
  • Use of Lean and Six Sigma tools to drive variation reduction
  • Validate and respond to corrective and preventive action requests (from both internal and external customers)
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the use and application of statistical quality assurance methods.
  • Ability to create or review failure analysis reports and perform dimensional tolerance stack-up analyses
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement statistically valid control plans and audit plans
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of problem-solving tools: 5-Whys, failure mode and effects analysis, 8-D, Pareto analysis, fault tree analysis, Bayesian inference, and Ishikawa diagrams
  • Design, mechanical integrity, process control, project management, assembly, and machining experience preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills aimed at identifying and correcting the root causes of problems
  • Excellent working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Experience with PPAP, Control Plans, FMEAs, and problem-solving techniques.
  • High ethical standards. Models and supports the organization’s goals and values; adapts to changing conditions; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.
  • Knowledge of appropriate computer-based programs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations (required)
  • Lean manufacturing practices to improve product/process quality
  • Six sigma tools and methodology; green belt or black belt experience is a plus
  • Strong business/technical writing, presentation, planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and other applicable tools
  • Working knowledge of inspection metrology and proper application of automated measuring equipment
