Job Profile
The company is searching for an Optics Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for delivering best‑in‑class optical components and systems, using diamond‑turning, precision fabrication, and lean manufacturing, to meet demanding defense missions.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Optical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college.
Work Experience
- Hands-on optics manufacturing or CNC machining experience
- Experience with CAD software, creating mechanical drawings, and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience working in a production environment, including creation and upkeep of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and working with represented and non-represented employees.
- Machining experience: CNC milling and turning, conventional machining, and CAM.
- Candidates with skills and experience across multiple disciplines of optics manufacturing: CNC polishing, double-sided polishing, sub-aperture polishing, MRF, optical centering, and diamond turning.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Applying lean manufacturing techniques to reduce cost, improve yield, and streamline workflow.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams—including design, quality, supply chain, and program management—to resolve technical challenges and support schedule commitments.
- Designing, documenting, and sustaining manufacturing and test plans for non‑recurring effort (NRE) projects, then transitioning those plans into full‑rate production.
- Developing and maintaining process documentation that aligns with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Investigating root causes of failures or defects, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Managing tooling, manufacturing aids, and capital equipment requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Providing technical guidance and hands‑on support to optical operators to achieve peak performance.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Demonstrated small team leadership skills, as well as collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, etc.
- Knowledge of relevant military and ISO optical specifications.
- The use of advanced optical metrology, including stitching interferometry for aspheric surface metrology, white light interferometry, and both contact and non-contact profilometry.
