Job Profile

The company is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic I (UH-60) who will troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulics, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)

Work Experience

  • 3 years of aviation maintenance experience, 2 years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and 2 years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • All experience must be within the 6 most recent years.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Inspects jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate the source of malfunction.
  • Performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves, inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers’ and airlines’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, may service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, may specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair.
  • Work involves: replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engines from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • A valid up-to-date A&P license (preferred but not required)
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Driver’s License
  • Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position.
  • Knowledge of equipment related to individual requirements (UH-60).
  • Knowledge of military or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
  • Knowledge of military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed in the toolbox and tools etched with PID.

Clearance Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts in the shop area.
  • Frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Knowledge of military or company forms required by work specifications is a plus.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished using mechanical devices.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • Work is performed in a Maintenance Hangar environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • Work is performed outside as well. May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
