Job Profile

The company is seeking an Area Operations Manager who will direct and control the manufacture and distribution of packaged and bulk gases in the assigned regional plant locations.

Responsible for coordinating regional plant safety, maintenance, compliance, staffing, training, associate performance, capital expenditures, and operational budgets.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • 10 + years of experience in industrial gas/packaged gas industry plant environment, petrochemical, or related industries in operations, engineering, or related activities.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • General Management and Leadership Roles in Industrial Gas Business.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and assure compliance with the Code of Conduct/Handbook, policies and procedures, and all applicable rules, regulations, and standards promulgated by Federal, State, and other applicable agencies or regulating bodies.
  • Assists with the development of capital expenditure budget and coordinates capital expenditures once proper approvals have been received.
  • Attend safety meetings.
  • Compiles, stores, and analyzes production data and makes adjustments so that customer needs are met and customers are retained.
  • Comply with all Airgas safety rules and company policies.
  • Creates, implements, and revises, as needed, standard operational practices.
  • Develops capital expenditure budget and coordinates capital expenditures once proper approvals have been received.

  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
  • Ensures adequate cylinder supply to meet customer needs.
  • Ensures all accidents or injuries are reported within 24 hours and properly investigated.
  • Ensures safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted, and documented. Corrects unsafe practices or conditions without delay, promotes safety awareness of employees and creates a mechanism in which the supervisors are actively participating and held accountable.
  • Manages all operations personnel following company policies by hiring, training, motivating, planning, and directing work, managing performance, and resolving associate issues so that assigned performance targets are met or exceeded.
  • Must lead within the Airgas culture – putting safety first.
  • Resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and minimum delays.
  • Responsible for the regional plant locations overall Safety, Quality, Service and Cost control.
  • Reviews production orders and schedules to obtain product data such as types, quantities, specifications of products, and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan efficient and cost-effective operations that meet customers’ product needs and customer satisfaction.
  • Suggests or initiates plans to motivate workers to achieve goals; recommends or initiates personnel actions.
  • Works with the regional safety officer to coordinate the procedures required for compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, FDA, and state and local regulations and Union agreements.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and be detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to write routine business reports and correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from associates, managers, customers and the general public.
  • Compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory procedures (CGMP, DOT, OSHA, FDA,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office suite of applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet customer needs and management expectations.
  • Must be customer service oriented and able to interact with the public professionally.
  • Must have extensive coordination experience in a multi-team environment.
  • Must have good math skills; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages; ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Possess a conceptual understanding of industrial gas products, production, distribution applications, and equipment
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing apply.
  • Proficiency with SAP software (desired)
  • Significant training in Safety and Compliance (OSHA, DOT, EPA, FDA)
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing practices (desired)
