Job Profile

The company is hiring an Assembly Weld Technician who will provide technical support within the welding function across the entire department. This includes but is not limited to Laser Welding and Brazing GMAW Mig Welding Projection Welding Drawn Arc Stud Welding and Resistance Spot Welding processes to support production and quality and carry out the assignments and responsibilities given to them by the Assembly Maintenance Manager Assembly Weld Engineer or Weld Team Leader

Educational Qualification

  • Technical Welding Associate’s Degree or equivalent Automated Manufacturing Degree with a minor in Welding preferred Metallurgy
  • Technical Training: Technical knowledge may be requested through a technical assessment prior to hiring lateral move or promotion.

Work Experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Advanced robotic troubleshooting on robots when concerning the welding processes
  • Attend and participate in Team Department Plantwide and any other meetings as required
  • Basic electrical circuit troubleshooting
  • Clean and change weld electrodes and perform general maintenance on equipment to ensure acceptable working conditions and startup requirements
  • Conduct all activities in a professional manner and positive attitude with an emphasis on personal responsibility

  • Duties also include detailing to supervisors and managers with shift pass-downs necessary modifications to be made to existing equipment to maximize ease of operation and increase machine performance
  • Ensure proper welding documentation delivery from the Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies
  • Follow comply and enforce all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs Magna and OSHA Standards
  • Follows and supports Magnas’ operating principles
  • Maintain Mig Welding equipment and remain trained on all types of Mig Welding defects root causes and corrective actions This includes secondary weld quality monitoring systems SmartRay 2D Camera Systems
  • Maintain Mig Welding process parameters while being a resource to others concerning Mig Weld Quality
  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Drive
  • Make necessary adjustments to parts and machinery to ensure proper production run
  • Monitor quality of welds review welding trends from weld destruct data and remain trained in all phases of applicable weld troubleshooting
  • Must be willing to work overtime at a moment notice when emergencies arise, for example Callins machine crashes, etc.
  • Practice good housekeeping in the Weld Shop production floor and in assembly cells
  • Proactively supports/initiates corrective measures to weld control issues
  • Promote MAFACT benchmarks to achieve World Class Manufacturing
  • Provide technical support for all welding systems during the introduction of new models and technology
  • Responsible for installing maintaining and upkeep of resistance welding programs stepper programs and adaptive feedback monitoring
  • Responsible for keeping adequate quantities of all resistance welding supplies and assisting in ordering when necessary eg new tips tip holders cables and water tubes
  • Set up and program production welding equipment and production machinery by installing and testing resistance electrodes welding fixtures tooling and other parts as required
  • Update verification forms when needed
  • Work with minimal supervision and work well with a Team
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to work in stressful situations
  • Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility
  • Must have good working knowledge and understanding of the assembly process
  • Must possess interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work extended or flexible hours as required to meet production demands

Physical Demands

  • 80% standing and walking 20% stooping kneeling crouching crawling climbing or balancing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to electrical systems presses and motors, etc.
  • Weld Technician shall be able to work in various locations within and outside the plant Work near moving mechanical parts work in high precarious places vibrations and loud noises
