Job Profile

The company (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) is recruiting an Automatic Fusion Weld Machine Operator who will set up and operate a welding machine that fusion welds circular tubes, rings, and fittings to tubing that is an alloy of titanium/stainless steel, which is used to manufacture hydraulic and oxygen tubing assemblies for aircraft.

Requires flexion/extension, handling, rotation of head/neck, finger manipulation, carrying less than 10 pounds, sitting, standing, contact with metals and solvents, exposure to noise, welding equipment, and energized sources, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears, and feet.

This position requires certification every 5 years on titanium and stainless-steel metals.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should be High School Graduates or GED (preferred)

Work Experience

  • 1+ years of experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
  • 1+ years of experience using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators, etc.
  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools or hand-held power tools
  • 1+ years of experience working with precision measuring tools

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Sell in process or completed operation to the inspector, as required.
  • Put away all welding machine tools and accessories in a proper place, as required.
  • Document pertinent information into the logbook (e.g., tube size, joint type, tube quantity, and date/time), as required by Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).
  • Check the welding process of tubing for exterior welding imperfections (e.g., inclusion, crater crack, overlap, and undercut), as required.
  • Check interior welds on the visual bore scope system for imperfections (e.g., inclusion and joint lines).
  • Consult with supervision/lead and other sources (e.g., planning and inspection), to resolve problems, as required.
  • Deburr/clean all foreign matter off of tubing ends, rings, and fittings with alcohol to eliminate surface contaminants prior to fusion welding.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner.
  • Maintain (PPE) personal protective equipment and certifications, as required.
  • Obtain work from the ready-to-work area and work the color-coded day jobs, as required. Screen (W/O) to ensure that prior operations have been bugged off and completed.
  • Obtain/review work order (W/O) to identify tubing size and fitting or joint configuration to be fusion welded.
  • Perform correct measuring/marking of tubes per drawing and cut off the excess with a chop saw before/after fusion welding of tubes and fittings.
  • Perform/set the machine to weld setting sheet per Boeing (BAC) specifications. Verify/check all machine settings and gas flow rates, as required.
  • Select the correct machine welding and support equipment (e.g., jaw inserts, electrodes, gages, jigs, and fixtures).
  • Set the electrode length or arc gap using the proper set gauge and tightened it down with an Allen wrench.
  • Verify that the issued tube size and fittings are compatible with the Work Order. Access online computer equipment to review (BAC) specifications, drawings, and Bold/Web, as required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Basic Computer experience
  • Must be physically able to lift 35 or more pounds during a shift

  • The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
