The company is seeking a Brake Operator to join its steam.
Education Level
- High School Graduate or equivalent
Work Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment (desired) or graduation from an accredited trade school.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Accountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with maintaining these tools and equipment.
- Actively participate in department safety, and demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors that conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
- Bends pole trapezoids and or parts by using the magnetic crane to move the material and Brake press to complete the projects.
- Responsible for entering the necessary data into the Press Brake computer.
- Responsible for completing required reports and recording the appropriate date with accuracy.
- A thorough knowledge of Press Brake procedures and practices is essential to ensure the quality of the product. This will include the ability to calculate formulas using basic math, standard U.S., and Metric Measurements.
- Works under conditions with accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to prioritize work to complete deadlines. Must also be able to work through problems with the minimum amount of assistance from the lead person or the supervisor.
- Ability to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time result without errors.
- Able to program and re-set the Press Brake, troubleshoot operating malfunctions, and be well versed in operator’s maintenance of the equipment.
- Able to read and decipher blueprints and flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly lay out and bend required products.
- At the end of 90 Calendar days, the candidate must be able to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality, and attendance as determined by Management.
- Knowledge of quality requirements and standards.
Highly Qualified Candidates
- No degree
- 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Learn IFS and machine operating program
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Develop a working knowledge and proper use of dies, punches, backstops, and gauging fixtures
- Make mathematical calculations in preparing products or setting up the machinery
- Set up, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
- Pass the forklift test
- Accurately read and use a tape measure, compass, micrometer, mag level, protractor, versa gauge, and caliper
- Operate the basic functions of a personal computer
- Perform accurate and detailed quality inspections to verify that parts are manufactured to specification.
Working Environment
- Ambient air conditions; both hot in the summer and cold in the winter
- Exposure to additional heat during the fitting/welding process above ambient temperature and direct exposure to weld fumes
- Exposure to noise while grinding and hammering requires hearing protection to be worn at all times
- Physical efforts include: standing – 80%, bending over – 15%, average weight handled – 25 lbs., operator grinds 10% and uses buffer 10% of the time.
- Possible burns from hot steel during welding processes, eye injuries from grinding, welding, and cutting sparks, flash burns from welding, and heat fatigue
- Potential for hearing loss if proper PPE not used
- Sparks from grinding and welding require proper PPE
