Job Profile

The company is looking for a Category Manager (Metal Fabrication) who will do the following functions-

  • Directly manage the Metal Fabrication Category.
  • Identify and engage with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, and quality) to capture commodity requirements and ensure supplier qualification and quality.
  • Responsible for developing and executing detailed commodity strategy.
  • Conduct or support negotiations and supplier selection.
  • Responsible for delivering commodity productivity through price, value analysis (VA), or continuous improvement projects.
  • Support Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and quarterly supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers within the commodity.
  • Responsible for commodity continuity of supply including actively monitoring and mitigating supplier risk.
  • Support region/sector NPD Procurement teams through preferred supplier programs and strategy development.

This position will have a heavy technical focus. A background in engineering is beneficial to drive VAVE and facilitate discussions with engineering teams.

Educational Qualification

  • The applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or related field from a college or university.

Work Experience

  • The candidates should have 5+ years of procurement sourcing experience, consulting, buyer, or analyst experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountable for execution of sourcing projects including RFx, continuous improvement, consolidation, etc.
  • Actively monitor and mitigate supplier risk including financial, capacity, quality, and compliance
  • Assess opportunities for commodities including spend segmentation, commodity maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis
  • Conduct or support negotiations and supplier selection – accountable for contract lifecycle management and compliance
  • Develop sourcing strategy for commodity detailing projects, sourcing levers, timing, resources, and expected benefits
  • Identify and engage with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, quality) to capture commodity requirements and ensure supplier qualification and quality – partner with regional PPM teams to efficiently transition suppliers as needed
  • Manage the Metal Fabrication Category
  • Responsible for commodity continuity of supply – engage with plants to efficiently resolve escalated issues and formally manage and secure supplier capacity
  • Responsible for defining negotiations strategy including supplier profiles, commercial negotiations targets, defining switching costs, and building Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Responsible for delivering commodity productivity through price, value analysis (VA), or continuous improvement projects – responsible for supporting regional/sector countermeasures
  • Responsible for developing and executing detailed commodity strategy:
  • Responsible for forecasting, reporting, mitigating, and recovery of commodity inflation
  • Support Quarterly Commodity Reviews (QCR) including updated projects, metrics, strategy, and countermeasures
  • Support region/sector NPD Procurement teams through preferred supplier programs, RFQs, and SRM to set and meet program QCD targets
  • Support supplier segmentation, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), and quarterly supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers within the commodity. Scribe for all quarterly reviews and key supplier meetings. Ensure the creation of supplier profiles for all SRM suppliers.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience coordinating, facilitating discussions, consultation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrate competence in negotiating skills and assessing vendors.
  • Professional communication; both verbal and written are required.

  • Relationship Management – Creates collaborative environment with cross-functional partners, assures regular/appropriate two-way communication flow, builds/maintains relationships with industry peers and suppliers, and reinforces GSC lead on “on IR voice” to the supply base.
  • Supply Chain Acumen – Oversees development and execution of GSC strategies/playbooks for assigned components or services, drives utilization of common GSC tools to achieve optimal IR results that are Quality, Delivery, Price and Service balanced, and corporate/governmental compliant.
