The company is recruiting a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join its team.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must hold a current AWS CWI certification
Work Experience
- Shall have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an occupational function with a direct relationship to welded assemblies that are fabricated to national or international standards
- Experience applying welding-related codes, standards, or specifications
- Experience as a welder, welding operator, or tack welder in fabrication, manufacturing, or construction
- Experience in operational techniques and activities used to fulfill quality control requirements for weldments
- Experience in planning, control, and application of base metals and filler metals in the preparation and completion of production weldments
- Experience in planning, control, and application of repair welding
- Experience in teaching the occupational skill of welding or subjects related to welding; its application, control, materials, and processes
- Experience in the detection and measurement of weld discontinuities by application of visual or other nondestructive evaluation processes to a written procedure
- Experience in the development of procedures, inspection requirements, acceptance criteria, and specifications for weldments
- Experience in the preparation of written procedures for welding, nondestructive evaluation of weldments, or destructive tests of weldments
- Experience in the qualification of welders or welding procedures to various codes, standards, and specifications
Duties/Responsibilities
- CWI to perform Qualification Procedure Records (PQR), Weld Procedure Specification (WPS), and qualification and company certification of welders to WPS’s
- CWI visually inspects weldments for discontinuities associated with customer documents and specifications
- Ensure that the work produced by welders meets specifications for quality and safety
- Follow OSHA safety guidelines and ITAR compliance
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to ensure proper joint configuration and preparation of weldments
- Ability to read and interpret weld notes
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- As may be required, operate overhead crane, and operate as a forklift driver, when licensed by Company
- CWI shall record and maintain the results of tests and weld inspections
- Perform visual inspections on welded products, structures in progress, and completed weldments
- Periodically check weld unit set-up and the welding techniques of welders on in-process work to ensure quality of work
- Review plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements, sequence of welding assignments, and personnel needs
- Skills in both verbal and written communications
- Use various measuring instruments to ensure welds meet specifications for dimension
- Visual inspections search for discontinuities in the weld such as cracks, undercut, overlap, porosity, incomplete penetration, lack of fusion
