Job Profile
The company is searching for a Certified Welding Inspector who will employ knowledge and training in welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and weld-related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety criteria.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Technical Degree in Welding (preferred)
Work Experience
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience (required)
- Construction materials testing experience (preferred)
License/Certification
- Must have AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Able to issue and follow up on non-conformances until the close-out
- Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management
- Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations
- Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
- Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
- Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
- May also operate testing equipment and conduct testing (example: soil, concrete, or other), and provide assessment of data through reporting
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
- Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
- Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
- Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
- Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, test, or integration to assure the quality of the assigned product or component
- Record results of tests and welding inspections
- Reviews all welded products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept or reject the product
- Testing and inspection of structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication
- Ability to read blueprints and understand and interpret tolerances
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
- Must be able to periodically work off shifts and overtime
- Must be able to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
- Must be able to test concrete and compaction
- Must be able to work well independently and with others
Work Environment
- May work at heights or in confined spaces
- Often exposed to loud noise, heat, and outdoor weather
- Requires wearing safety gear like helmets and goggles
- Shift work, overtime, and travel may be necessary
- Works in industrial, construction, and manufacturing environments
