Job Profile

The company is recruiting a CNC Lathe Operator who will primarily set up and operate production machines such as vertical and horizontal machining centers.

Machine materials to drawing specifications.

Reads and interprets drawings and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), as required.

Perform in-process inspections where required.

Education Level

  • Minimum 1 year of machining environment or Trade School experience

Work Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with CNC machines (Mills and Lathes)
  • Experience with manual adjustments as required on programs (Fanuc controls).
  • Experience with the use of quality control measuring devices (micrometers, gauges, indicators, scales calipers, etc.).

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
  • Manual adjustments as required on programs: Fanuc control vertical CNC Lathe machines.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
  • Set up and operate the machine on a trial run to verify the accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls.
  • Study sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and edit machine programs and comprehend GD&T
  • Fagor control experience.
  • Mastercam programming experience
  • Prior experience with set up and operation of CNC machining centers (vertical, horizontal rotary attachments)

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases
  • Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment
  • Light is intense/glare
  • Noise is over 85 decibels
  • Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks
  • Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%

  • Differentiate between colors
  • Eye protection
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Operate a motor vehicle – to be trained
  • Wear PPE for skin protection
  • Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on his stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.

Frequent-

  • Lift 20-50 pounds
  • Wear PPE for the head, and hands
  • Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects.
  • Twist, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated.
  • Work with arms extended below the waist, unsupported, elbows flexed, wrist supported and unsupported.

Constant-

  • Lift 10-20 pounds
  • Standing and walking
  • Wear PPE for body, vision, and hearing protection (as required)
  • Steel/safety-toed shoes/boots
