Job Profile

The company is looking for a CNC Machine Repair Tech V who will perform as the technical expert for installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and documenting the electrical/electronic, mechanical, and controls needs of automated equipment in an industrial environment.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or Educational equivalent (required)
  • Associate’s degree or technical training in Machine Tool Technology, CNC programming, Electronic Controls, Electronics Engineering Technology, or Automated Manufacturing Technology (highly desired)

Work Experience

  • 8 years of experience performing Machine Tool SCADA operations, Building Automation System/Building Management System service and repair in a heavy industrial, environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Acts on familiarity with feedback systems, PID controllers, servo systems, and direct slide-wire feedback.
  • Conceives and realizes automated solutions implementing control schemes.
  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facility reliability improvements.
  • Demonstrates a high level of urgency and flexibility to meet emerging business needs.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of hydraulic and pneumatics as related to electronic controls, including Vickers, Rexroth, Parker, and various other manufacturers.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of AC/DC motor control, including thyristor drives such as Siemens, ABB, Omron, Reliance, Saftronics, Klockner Moeller, Ceda, GE, and Westinghouse.
  • Deploys solid knowledge of laser and optics machine vision, including Keyence, Effector, Cognex, Datalogic, Microscan, and related equipment.
  • Develops and monitors work assignments for other technicians and coaches as appropriate.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Machine Tools and equipment.
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills, such as motivation, delegation, ownership, leading by example, well-developed organizational skills, excellent communication skills, etc.
  • Identifies, reviews, and recommends activities and upgrades/retrofits to improve maintenance and operation methods and equipment performance.
  • Leverages proficiency in electronic data communication methods and techniques such as Profibus, profi-net, SCADA, Ethernet, and remote I/O wired and wireless communication platforms.
  • Must understand and be capable of instrumentation and equipment calibration, for optimum performance.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Operates data loggers, analyzers, signal conditioners, and remote pendent.
  • Operates oscilloscopes for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to help troubleshoot and repair.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Possesses the ability to lead complex technical work utilizing a wide variety of resources, including computers. Often responsible for leading maintenance projects from conception to completion. Identifies and documents cost and lost opportunity savings.
  • Programs and modifies ladder logic and function block languages.
  • Programs, modifies, and interfaces with various MMI (HMI) devices.
  • Reads and understands electrical/electronic and mechanical schematics.
  • Respond and provide service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as performing job hazard analysis, following lockout/Tag out procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note U.S. Citizen is required for facility credentials/authorization at this worksite.
  • May require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
  • Requires a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during a shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, and squat repetitively during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitively for the shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the ability to safely operate an Ariel Lift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client-approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors about wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access databases, send/receive messages, and prepare documents.
  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.

  • Wear steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
