Job Profile
The company is hiring a CNC Machinist who will be responsible for setting up and operating computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to cut and shape metallic workpieces. Manual machining is also required for some projects.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical School Diploma or equivalent in relevant work experience preferred.
Work Experience
- 2 years related experience and training (required)
- 5 years of related experience (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist and train CNC Machinists in machine setup procedures.
- Complete all required paperwork.
- Control the position of the tool and workpiece in relation to each other and set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Make adjustments as necessary.
- Direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.
- Ensure the work area is kept clean and organized at all times.
- Inspect all finished product to confirm meets blueprint or job order specifications.
- Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with Company policies and procedures.
- Make recommendations to implement improved processes.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on CNC machines.
- Operate CNC machines (Okuma and Haas machines “G” code) used to cut and shape precision workpieces used in the manufacture of heat transfer products from solid blocks of metal.
- Operate various small pieces of equipment to complete workpieces.
- Participate in cross-training throughout the manufacturing facility. Depending upon company need, may be posted in alternate work assignments.
- Perform minor machine maintenance as required or directed.
- Provide feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement.
- Read and interpret blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, tooling instructions, and sequence of operations.
- Set up fixture or feeding device, start machine, feed tool to workpiece, and engage feed.
- Use all safety devices/tools to ensure safe operation of CNC machines.
- Visually and audibly observe the operation of the CNC machine to verify the conformance of the machined workpiece to blueprint or job order specifications and to detect sounds, such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration. Correct identified production problems as necessary.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to be cross-trained throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw and apply valid conclusions.
- Ability to read and work to set tolerances and work from blueprints.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions or correspondence.
- Ability to set up and operate CNC Mills. Programming skills preferred.
- Ability to work in a team-fostered environment.
- Basic mathematical skills are required.
- Manual machining experience preferred
- Mechanically inclined and possess a strong degree of attention to detail.
- Proficient in accurate use of micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
