Job Profile

The company is looking for a CNC Machinist II who will load, and unload parts in operation of 2-5 axis CNC/Automated mill and lathe machine tools to produce complex machined aerospace parts.

Responsible for in-process inspection of machined products, which requires basic competencies in shop math, hand-measuring tools, and documentation.

Responsible for some deburr operations as well as basic preventative machine maintenance, which includes coolant and lube levels and area cleanliness.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • CNC Operator/Machinist Diploma or Certification (preferred)
  • Machine Tool Technology Degree (a plus)

Work Experience

  • 2-4 years of manufacturing experience operating CNC mills or lathes; prior military experience; or technical certification/degree.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adheres to quality processes including in-process inspections to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
  • Communicates with manufacturing on first-piece acceptance and stopping processes due to failing parts.
  • Load and unload products and fixtures on assigned CNC machine.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to 6S standards.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts through verbal or documented communication for required actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains machines in operational condition by performing daily preventive maintenance checks of oil levels and coolant concentration, reporting any machine abnormalities to the shift team leader or supervisor.
  • Obtain job assignments from supervisor or manager.
  • Pass or fail parts in QMS.
  • Perform machining operations from drawings and written work instructions.
  • Performs visual inspections of machine parts.
  • Report nonconforming parts to shift lead, supervisor, or engineering.
  • Responsible for his/her part quality and utilizes standard and customer measuring equipment to perform dimensional checks.
  • Utilize basic mathematical skills to measure and record dimensional items with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work safely following plant safety guidelines including cardinal rules of safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and a high volume of work on a deadline.
  • Ability to professionally communicate and work cooperatively with others.
  • As required, must be able to pass any Customer-required testing/machining specifications about their parts and standards.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic English language skills and the ability to read, follow, and interpret planning and work order instructions.
  • Basic math skills include adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and fractions.
  • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Skill in following directions both verbal and written and in transferring instructions into action.
  • Willingness to learn.

Working Conditions

  • Constant exposure to the indoor manufacturing environment
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise
  • Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends, and holidays if scheduled.
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours, and wet or uneven surfaces.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant requirement of specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Constantly stand and walk throughout the workday.
  • Constantly use hands/fingers to grasp, pinch, pull, feel, or and manipulate parts and tools.
  • Constantly wear eye protection (Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required).
  • Frequent repetitive motions
  • Frequent use of physical skills to operate a wide variety of machines and tools working to close tolerances.
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to manipulate or feel material.
  • Good coordination to operate multiple controls simultaneously.
  • Has use of electric cranes, and hoists for lifting and moving forgings.
  • Heavy visual concentration is required to reach precision measuring instruments and to observe cutting operations.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. when needed.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
