Job Profile

The company is hiring a CNC Machinist (Millturn) with Mill-turn experience to join its team.

The position will report to the Operations Manager.

Education Level

  • May require basic education (a bachelor’s degree is preferred)
  • Either time served machinist with experience in mill-turn machines or a minimum HNC-qualified machinist

Work Experience

  • Fully skilled, time-served engineer with Significant experience in setting and operating mill turn machines
  • Experience working in a dynamic sub-contract machining environment
  • Experience in Aerospace machining and AS9100 requirements is desirable, other highly regulated industries will also be considered (medical, nuclear, automotive, etc.)
  • FLT license is desirable

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Able to run multiple machines/set-ups (multi-task).
  • Adhere to company procedures at all times.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the machining section.
  • Efficient identification of production process tool wear and the timely adjustment, and replacement of worn, broken, or damaged cutting tools.
  • Efficiently and productively load and safely operate a range of CNC machines ensuring that downtime is minimized.
  • Ensure that daily/weekly/monthly maintenance tasks are carried out as required.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping.
  • Provide timely feedback to the Line Manager on issues and any recommendations for process or quality improvement.
  • Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, work holding, and tooling.
  • Routinely electronically register and record all process operations on all machine tools being used and maintain results daily.
  • Set up/change over or operate a range of Mill-turn machines and machining centers by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling and tool wear offsets.
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time to support the business within the various production areas, manufacturing facilities, or elsewhere as may be required.
  • To support with any other ad-hoc tasks where required.
  • To take a responsible and proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental risks with your role and to control the risks or report them to the management team as appropriate.
  • Verify programs and settings using a range of measuring/inspection equipment and apply appropriate adjustments to ensure that component quality is maintained.
  • Train and mentor other machinists/apprentices on site.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • A strong working knowledge of cutting tool settings and applications and competent with the use of complex fixtures.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. (ability to apply concepts such as trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations).
  • Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Able to train and mentor others.
  • Able to troubleshoot machining processes and work under initiative.
  • Comfortable working within an ISO 9001-controlled environment
  • Communicates honestly, professionally, and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
  • Good level of IT skills
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy
  • Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
  • Understands and can perform work shifts and tool wear compensation/offsets.
  • Used to working to tight tolerances in a wide range of materials.
