Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate’s degree in a technical field with 2 years of experience in programming or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent industry experience.
- Advanced training, certification, and education (a plus)
Work Experience
- Possess a combination of work experience and education.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to manage software, files, solid models, and other interfaces associated with programming software.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing Engineers or works independently to develop manufacturing/machining processes from drawings to create a part that meets specifications at the lowest cost.
- Creates tool drawings and set-up sheets for the machine operators.
- Demonstrate safe work practices in accordance with the Johnson Controls Safety Program, OSHA, and EPA.
- Design fixtures to hold parts on a specific machine.
- Determines proper tooling to be used for various required base metals. Establishes optimum feeds and speeds. Understands the effects of these variables on the machining process.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Must understand and work with multiple models of machine tools and manufacturer’s controls.
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, etc.
- Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, stock pushers, and indicating vices.
- Troubleshoots manufacturing problems to determine if the issue is a process problem versus a machine issue.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
- Writes complex programs for multiple-axis lathes, milling, and drilling machines (4 or 5-axis).
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Proven experience as a CNC operator with minimal supervision, and must be willing to work with others that they interact with to resolve problems and meet customer requirements.
- Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Must be able to read and comprehend general business documents, computer printouts, and drawings.
- Must have strong organizational skills, a desire to learn, and be detail-oriented.
- Must demonstrate the ability to handle new and changing tasks, follow instructions and defined procedures, and show a willingness to learn.
- Must be able to work well with others and be a productive team member.
Preferred Qualifications
- G-code and CAM software i.e., Mastercam software
- GibbsCam
- Haas and Okuma machines and tooling experience
- Renishaw probing Macros
Work Conditions
- Extended hours or overtime may be required based on workload.
- The general work area is in a production environment where moderate levels of noise or heat and cold occur.
- Frequently operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, ladders, etc.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally be required to physically lift, pull, push, or apply force up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional grasping, bending, stooping, and twisting are involved.
- Extended periods of squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, and walking are occasionally required.
- Must have constant free mobility of hands, wrists, and arms in order to operate hand tools, computer equipment, and materials storage equipment.
- Some physical and mechanical dexterity is required.
