Job Profile
The company is searching for a CNC Setup/Operate Machinist who will lead the setup, operation, and continuous training activities of all machine operators in the Regulator department.
Support various types of computers numerically controlled machines (DMG NHX), and other assorted secondary operation machines to produce valve bodies following production needs and standard operating procedure.
May operate various types of controllers, preset and change tooling as well as maintain inventory of commonly consumed tooling.
Required to participate in the development and adherence of PM activities throughout the department.
Lead and set expectations for routine housekeeping and 5-S activities around all machines
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- Prior experience setting up various CNC machines
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in securing proper paperwork for operators within your complement of machines.
- Be responsible for the completion of production records such as recap cards and pan tickets.
- Be responsible for training machine operators in the operation of any machinery, Preventative Maintenance of machinery, in-process inspection of components, and any other training that may be prescribed from time to time.
- Communicate with the Value Stream Team Leader or Department Supervisor issues causing downtime that cannot be rectified immediately.
- Demonstrate proactive response to minimize equipment downtime.
- To ensure a successful start-up, it is expected that the CNC Setup Operator will review local Kanban to plan start-up activities for all machines. This will require this individual to report to work at least ½ hour before the machine operator’s scheduled shift starts.
- If required, submit the first piece to the quality control department for inspection.
- Make minor or major adjustments to machinery to ensure that production stays within established quality parameters.
- Monitor and audit inspections performed by the machine operators.
- Monitor the status of equipment periodically.
- Obtain and load proper casting to machines.
- Obtain setup and check to ensure all needed components are included in proper (sharp) condition for setup.
- Operate machines, when not engaged in a setup.
- Perform resets which involve tool changes, re-sharpening, etc.
- Prepare the first-piece inspection following company policy.
- Set the machine up following printed setup sheets and by generally accepted machining principles, to maximize the efficiency of the job, and to ensure proper machining of parts.
- Strip the prior job and prepare the machine for setup.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to use gages and precision measuring equipment and read and interpret blueprints
- Excellent math skills
- Knowledge of setting up and operating CNC Lathes and HMCs
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to walk, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
