Job Profile
The company is looking to hire a Counter Sales (DOT) who will sell medical, industrial, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and hard goods and tools to customers.
Responds to inquiries or concerns from either walk-in customers or those customers that call in. The Counter Sales associate provides additional warehouse support as needed.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Welding Technology, or Sales (preferred)
- Hazmat and Airbrake Certifications (or ability to acquire certifications as a condition of employment)
- Must be at least 21 years or older
Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of previous product, warehouse, or sales-related experience or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Must have 1 year of prior Class B professional driving experience within the last 5 years and a clean driving record to include no more than 2 convictions; OR 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years; OR no more than a combination of 1 conviction and 1 at-fault accident in the last 3 years.
- Prior welding experience preferred such as knowledge in MIG, TIG, and Stick Welding (preferred)
- Prior experience operating a forklift (preferred)
- SAP experience strongly (preferred)
- Strong background in gas, welding, and safety supply industry with retail experience (preferred)
- In lieu of experience, Airgas may consider accepting a diploma from an accredited driving school or a combination of driving and prior Airgas-specific experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Accurately completes and files all required paperwork on a timely basis. Documents sales, quotes, or other information.
- Enters sales and quote data into the computer and researches information for customers using the computer system.
- Follows all safety procedures. Uses established safety procedures for cylinder handling during exchanges and storage of cylinders.
- Maintains current price documentation and product literature as it becomes available. Keeps product knowledge current.
- Maintains showroom cleanliness by procedures set forth by management.
- Provides warehouse support for shipping and receiving, inventory stocking, cleaning, labeling, or other tasks. Restocks store merchandise as needed. Arrange stock on shelves or racks in the sales area and keep merchandise in order. Marks or tickets merchandise.
- Receives payment for merchandise or services sold and enters sale into the computer. Responsible for payments received and adhering to all administrative and accounting-related procedures. Wraps and bags purchase and help customers load merchandise into their vehicles.
- Solicits sales from walk-in and telephone call-in customers assisting customers with identification of product needs and locating merchandise.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
DOT Responsibilities-
- Establishes and maintains good customer relations. Listens to and helps resolve service inquiries and complaints.
- Maintains load manifests and all required vehicle documents by ensuring they are properly completed and reconciled with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries. Ensures that vehicle manifests, vehicle placards, cylinder labeling, and load nesting and strapping at all times comply with Airgas safety standards (SAFECOR) and all government regulations including, but not limited to, those issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Provides timely communication back to the manager or to the customer’s assigned Airgas sales associate regarding any changes or issues experienced by the customer.
- Safely loads, delivers, and unloads cylinders containing compressed gases to customer locations. Delivers compressed gas cylinders to external and internal customer sites. Records deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtains signatures from customers for receipt purposes. Collects empty cylinders or rejected or unsold merchandise. Returns empty cylinders to either a plant or branch location for refilling.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections documenting deficiencies; ensures all safety items are in good working order.
