Job Profile

The company is looking for a CWI/Weld Engineering Technician who will primarily support welding functions and authorize production after successful weld inspection.

Perform duties including inspecting First Article (FA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) products with the associated reporting.

Work to ensure that the products shipped meet the expectations of the customer and are delivered right the first time, including any of the associated identification and documentation requirements.

Efforts to maximize weld productivity utilizing various weld processes and equipment.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED plus an additional 1 year of formal preparation

Work Experience

  • Experienced in stainless, aluminum and mild structural steel welding with a solid understanding of metal fabrication concepts and processes, and explicit knowledge of our welding, principles/ practices/equipment

License/Certification

  • Must be an American Welding Society (AWS) CWI

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conducts D1.1 and D1.3 testing for new hires or the recertification of welders as needed
  • Evaluates new developments in the industry for possible application to processes.
  • Maintain records, inspection results, and welder performance documentation
  • Participate in the creation of welding procedures and welding techniques, standardizing welding to D1.1 and D1.3 specifications
  • Participates in the selection of new welding equipment in conjunction with the weld council and participates in welding equipment calibration and preventative maintenance activities
  • Participates in the weld audit process to verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that welding is performed as required by the applicable procedure.
  • Partner with the supervisory team to identify welders who need specific training or upskilling.
  • Provide necessary assistance to welders who do not meet minimum quality and efficiency requirements so they can again meet/exceed quality and efficiency levels
  • Provide support as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) as required to verify, validate, and approve welding
  • Responsible for the ongoing calibration of welding equipment as identified in the Calibration System
  • Weld equipment specifications and implementation
  • Weld training specifications
  • Work independently with little supervision while still delivering excellent results on time.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours with a changing work schedule as needed to support production

Work Environment

  • Occasional travel may be required, approximately 10%
