Job Profile
The company is seeking a Diesel Mechanic who will be responsible for safely and properly repairing commercial trucks and various equipment in the repair shop setting and out on road calls.
Educational Level
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- Journeyman-level mechanic with 3-5 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty diesel and medium fleet automotive (preferred)
- Experience performing preventative maintenance
- Experience with basic fabrication, use, and application of welders and gas torch systems
Duties/Responsibilities
- Communicate the status of downed vehicles to the lead mechanic
- Comply with CalPortland’s safety and environmental programs and requirements
- Maintain repair, service, and maintenance records
- May be required to perform other related duties as needed
- Oil changes, remove/replace wheels for clutch and brake work, replace G.E.T, etc.
- Prepare work orders and order parts in the SAP operating system
- Safely perform repairs in the field during inclement weather; report all incidents/injuries to management as soon as they occur
- Service trucks and heavy equipment using various hand and power tools
- Troubleshoot, repair, commercial trucks, and equipment
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment to test and troubleshoot for proper operation before and after maintenance
- Ability to work safely and efficiently independently and as a team
- Be able to communicate in verbal and written form
- Class A driver’s license preferred
- Knowledge of industrial and shop safety rules and procedures
- Must be able to bring the tools necessary to perform the functions of the job
- Reliable attendance
- Consider applicants who have recently completed diesel mechanic schooling
Work Employment
- Some positions require FMCSA-regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
- Must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check.
