Job Profile

The company is looking for a Dredge Operator who will operate the dredge in a safe and efficient manner and uses acquired skills to dredge sand from pond-filled pits.

Educational Qualification

  • The prospective applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • Prior experience required with the similar or same equipment or machinery

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
  • Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and preventive maintenance
  • At times welding may have to be performed to combat breakdowns
  • Be able to correctly change or repair various teeth from cutter heads
  • Be able to operate under training from leadman, loader operator, and supervisor for running a smooth and safe production
  • Be familiar with correct moving procedures from moving dredge to actually mining
  • Become familiar with assigned equipment and recognize potential maintenance problems by sight and sound and inform supervisory personnel
  • Become familiar with necessary lubrication of moving part on dredge
  • Carry out minor repairs and adjustments
  • In a safe and efficient manner be able to operate a workboat with motor
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the equipment
  • Make sure the dredge has an adequate supply of tools, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, and safety equipment
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Operate controls and levers to hoist, drag, and swing, cutter head for efficient productivity from banks of the pond
  • Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed
  • Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Work under the direction of Leadman and Manager
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to carry out not only simple but complex oral and written instructions and deal with problems from standardized situations and work experience
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other Mechanics, maintenance personnel, co-workers, and outside contractors
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly
  • Ability to perform basic logging and documenting functions
  • Ability to read English sufficiently and be able to comprehend the information contained in manuals, regulations, and reports
  • Ability to speak English with others via two-way radio
  • Ability to work Night Shift (12 hours per day, 4 nights per week, 5 pm-5 am)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to detect potential breakdown of equipment
  • Be capable of working in all weather conditions
  • Be familiar with and obey all company working practices and Federal Safety Regulations
  • Have mechanical aptitude
  • High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform the work activities safely and productively
  • Bi-lingual (a plus)

Working Conditions

  • Capable to work extended hours as needed
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, climbing to a significant degree, or pulling of controls
  • Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test, and drug/alcohol screen
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around
