Job Profile

The company is seeking an Equipment Technician who will support a positive safety culture, activities, and staff within a 24/7 aggregate environment regulated by MSHA safety standards while troubleshooting operation problems and using various tools to perform maintenance tasks and repairs.

Education Level

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Climb into and around mobile and plant equipment to make necessary adjustments
  • Complete and maintain required paperwork and reports for plant equipment and maintenance projects
  • Comply with all industry safety rules, procedures, and applicable government regulations including but not limited to ensuring a safe working environment for self and others
  • Conduct mandatory MSHA pre-shift inspections on equipment and work areas in the plant
  • Determine causes of operating problems in areas including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical systems/components, HVAC, carpentry, electrical fixtures/switches/power sources, and mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
  • Maintain contact with kiln operators and quality control to ensure material quality is met
  • Participate in general cleanup of the plant area, including but not limited to shoveling and sweeping
  • Participate in plant safety initiatives, committees, and activities
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and repairs on production equipment such as motors, conveyors, mechanical components, or electrical wiring and electrical components
  • Read blueprints and schematics
  • Troubleshoot basic 3 Phase/equipment up to 600v
  • Use small power tools and electronic test equipment
  • Weld, fabricate, cut, grind, and operator torches
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • The ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, walk, climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks up to 60 feet as required and lift weights up to 60 pounds
  • The ability to work in a varied outdoor environment (cold, hot, dry, dusty, rainy)
  • Willingness and ability to work some weekends and evenings
  • The ability to read blueprints
  • The ability to safely use an oxy-acetylene torch or equivalent plasma arc
  • The ability to weld (stick, wire), and basic knowledge of welding rods
  • The ability to braze, solder
  • The ability to fabricate guards and parts as required to meet MSHA Standards
  • The ability to use a variety of hand tools

Working Conditions

  • May require work periods in all weather conditions including heat, cold, wet, dry, and dusty.
  • Regularly sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, ascending, and descending stairs or ladders.
