The company is hiring a Fabrication Technician to join its team.

Possess knowledge of work hazards and safety requirements in welding and metal fabrication, including the proper use and care of tools, equipment; techniques, and materials of the welding trade (e.g. gas, MIG, ARC welding, and the techniques of brazing and soldering nonferrous metals).

Skilled in the use of a cutting torch, repairing and fabricating ferrous and nonferrous metals and assemblies utilizing MIG, TIG, and gas welding techniques.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants may be required a High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

• Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to AWS journey-level experience, considerable (3 to 5 years) in fabrication and welding using MIG, TIG, SMAW, oxygen/acetylene, and brazing processes.
• Technical training (preferred but not required)

Duties/Responsibilities

• Equipment being fabricated or repaired shall be completed in accordance with the best-known current manufacturing practices relative to design, materials, strength, quality, durability, safety, and workmanship. This work must be completed in accordance with the latest codes, standards, and practices of the industry.
• For heavier or unstable loads, operate forklifts, use cranes, jacks, slings, carts, and co-workers’ assistance as needed.
• May be required to develop time and material estimates for custom fabrication and modifications to equipment as required.
• Must be able to calculate the time and material required to complete custom fabrications.
• Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Performs specialized welding and fabricating duties related to vehicles and equipment in the creation of target assets.
• Performs specific job-shop welding and fabrication assignments related to custom operational requests and requirements.
• Performs work at a journey level and includes being proficient in multiple welding processes such as arc welding (SMAW), metal inert gas (MIG) welding, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, flux core welding (FCAW), plastic welding, hard facing, oxygen/acetylene welding, and brazing.
• Performs work in plasma cutting, oxygen/acetylene cutting, tempering, flame straightening, air carbon-arc cutting, sheet metal cutting/bending, iron worker use, pipe bending, oxygen/acetylene cutting torches, air carbon-arc/plasma cutting equipment and grinders.
• Requires the use of independent judgment in selecting the repair methods, equipment, and materials used to accomplish assignments.
• Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Ability to work with complicated welding tools like oxyfuel, mag-drills, welding manipulators, general fabrication equipment, etc. Proficient with torches and plasmas.
• Mathematics Skills
• Must be able to meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance and access to the work location; must be a US citizen.
• Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and Fit-for-Duty physical.
• Professional Knowledge of welding symbols, fitting, and blueprint reading skills.
• Will need to bring: Social Security Card, original state-issued birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate, valid state-issued driver’s license, and certifications listed in Additional Mandatory Requirements.
• CDL Class C
• CPR/First Aid

Work Environment

• Work is mainly performed outdoors in all types of weather, and may be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures.
• Also, works in an environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places, and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in the shop area.
• Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
• Frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
• Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
• Occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

Physical Demands-

• Communication with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and representatives from other Departments or locations to establish and maintain effective working relationships, accept information to develop repair procedures, and perform welding and fabrication functions.
• Communication may require multiple styles including oral, written, or electronic (e-mail), or at times a combination of several forms.
• Requires the ability to provide accurate written repair estimates including labor, material, and estimated time of completion.
• Assists in training coworkers in repair or metal fabrication.
