Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Facility Maintenance Mechanic who will provide a variety of maintenance services such as mechanical repairs and minor building and electrical repairs for a 5-level hospital building.

Education Level

  • Building Maintenance Mechanic (Community College 2-year Certificate Course), or equivalent Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate of Qualification in a relevant mechanical/technical trade i.e., Millwright, Stationary Engineering, etc.

Work Experience

  • 2+ years of experience/training relevant to the mechanical/technical trades

Duties/Responsibilities

Trade Specific Duties (25%)-

  • Minor welding repairs
  • Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance duties throughout the complex and cleans and services equipment as necessary.
  • Preventative maintenance and repairs of mechanical devices such as pumps, motors, air handling units, generators, chillers, boilers, hydraulic systems, parking equipment, plumbing systems, etc.
  • Repairs/installs locks, door closers, and all related hardware associated with doors/windows.
  • Replacing bearings drive belts, motor greasing, etc.
  • Water treatment testing

Building Maintenance Duties (75%)-

  • Adheres to all safety regulations and ensures tools and work areas are maintained to standard.
  • Assist other (licensed) trades with any work not requiring a specific license as required.
  • Change ceiling tiles.
  • Change light bulbs
  • Clean roof drains.
  • Clean/replace diffusers.
  • Cleaning mechanical/electrical rooms and other spaces “owned” by building services
  • Filter replacement.
  • Fire extinguisher checks.
  • Install signage/pictures/whiteboards, bulletin boards etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality and release of information in accordance with hospital and Honeywell policies at all times.
  • Minor door and window repairs
  • Minor plumbing repairs (change toilet seats, etc.) and plunge toilets
  • Obligation to review and commit to applicable departmental, hospital, and Honeywell policies and procedures at all times.
  • Repair office furniture/chairs.
  • Responding to demand calls and scheduled PMs with the use of the CMMS database which includes the use of PDAs (iPad)
  • Small wall fixture removal, small drywall repairs (screw holes, nail holes, etc.).
  • Supervise/assist contractors as required.
  • Use of scissor lifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to handle a variety of changing duties, from maintenance procedures to construction work.
  • Ability to make calculations for installation and repair of equipment, and to assist other trades as necessary.
  • Ability to work from verbal instructions, drawings or blueprints with minimal supervision.
  • Any procedure requiring overtime or outside contractors, difficulty in meeting scheduled workload, major malfunctions, difficult situations, etc. would be handled in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Aptitude for working with things and objects and servicing various equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Service, Responsible Stewardship, Community Responsiveness, and Respect.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and machinery typical to the environment, with skill in welding and hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with electrical computer system support and programming.
  • Mechanical device breakdowns. MSDS and WHMIS and safety manuals are referred to on a regular basis.
  • Numerical and spatial abilities are required.
  • Troubleshooting minor electrical or mechanical malfunctions, and complaints regarding heating or air conditioning are typical situations handled independently.
  • Verbal and reading skills are necessary to read and understand schematic drawings and technical manuals, pertaining to the operation and maintenance of equipment.
