Job Profile

The company is searching for a Field Technician III to join its team.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AAS or BS in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related degree
  • Must be at least 18 years old for entry onto job sites

Work Experience

  • 2 years of prior field or inspections experience

License/Certification

  • Certified Welding Inspector certification
  • Master Special Inspector certification or active ICC Certifications in Masonry, Soils, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Post-Tension, Concrete, etc., or EI (Engineer-in-Training) licensure
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge or certifications in radiation safety, NCDOT/SCDOT Roadway, and Earthworks certification

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Communicate daily with site contractors, other technicians, and project managers verbally and electronically
  • Complete and prepare accurate and detailed field-testing reports daily
  • Complete structural concrete and reinforcing code and job specification compliance
  • Determine pre-stressed and post-tension concrete tendons, reinforcing code, and job specification compliance
  • Determine spray-applied fireproofing code and job specification compliance
  • Document accurate and detailed field activity/inspections and report findings/diagrams to the clients and supervisors
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies
  • Inspect, assess, and determine that weld quality meets the acceptable criteria of a specific code or other specifications and safety regulations
  • Perform inspections of soil, concrete, asphalt, steel, or wood framing
  • Perform routine field tests or inspections
  • Prepare reports with detailed documentation of inspections, testing, and findings, including any defects or discrepancies
  • Read maps, blueprints, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans
  • Travel safely to various job sites in a company-provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep, and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
  • Understand structural masonry code and job specification compliance
  • Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material specifications
  • Other tasks as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures
  • Ability to calculate results from construction inspections
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computer

Work Environment

  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
  • Ability to lift or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
  • Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
  • Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel, and sit).
  • Exposure to environmental elements, including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
  • Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
