Job Profile

The company is seeking a Gear Cell Machinist who will be at the heart of precision engineering operations.

Engage in hands-on machining processes, utilizing your expertise to set up, adjust, and operate various machines while ensuring that every component meets stringent quality standards.

Education Level

  • High School Graduate or GED (preferred)

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of machining experience
  • 5+ years of experience in gear cell machining/cutting
  • Experience working with tool and cutter grinding processes, prototype development, or fabrication processes.
  • Experience working on multiple projects concurrently
  • Experience programming and setting up CNC Machines (i.e., lathes, grinders, mills, etc.)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards throughout all machining and finishing processes.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to machinery and production processes as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize production processes and resolve any issues that may arise during operations.
  • Coordinate the preparation and movement of materials within the gear cutting cell to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Detect faulty tools and equipment, taking corrective action under shop practices and procedures to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Document production activities and maintain accurate records of work performed, including any adjustments made to machinery.
  • Follow established sequences of operations and predetermined machine control data to maintain consistency and quality in production.
  • Independently set up, adjust, and operate a variety of machines in the gear cutting cell, including turning, reaming, drilling, tapping, chamfering, and gear cutting, to produce finished gears that meet quality requirements.
  • Interpret charts, tables, blueprints, formulas, sketches, and verbal orders to accomplish assigned tasks effectively.
  • Maintain and organize tools, fixtures, and equipment to ensure they are readily available and in good working condition.
  • Make necessary preparations and adjustments to ensure proper machine operation throughout the production process.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to gear cutting and machining.
  • Perform additional gear finishing processes, such as sandblasting, heat treating, cleaning, and deburring, as required to complete the production of gears (not processing just machining)
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and quality within the gear cutting cell.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and gear testing machines to complete and verify work assignments, providing part quality information and statistics as needed.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of gear geometry and tolerances
  • Machine setup, adjustments, and maintenance
  • Operation of gear-cutting and grinding machines
  • Precision measurement and inspection of gears
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings

Work Environment

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. to 15-35 lbs.
  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.
