Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Heat Treater who will provide critical heat treatment for castings per work instructions.

Contributes to the overall performance and profitability of the company through improving techniques and processes.

Also, responsible for contributing to department and company metrics, such as LU and PVA.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 6 months of on-the-job training

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI)
  • Must be able to work and function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Pushing, pulling and twisting
  • Understanding of computer software applications
  • Vision standards
  • Heat casting to a desired temperature to perform different operations of work, welding, grinding, and other various functions to reach the final Rockwell hardness requirement.
  • Select castings to satisfy production schedules and furnace capacity.
  • Verify casting and routing ticket information.
  • Monitor operating parameters of furnaces and report malfunctions.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, chart entries, and traceability reports.
  • Operate hardness testing equipment and interpret readings.
  • Operate electrical furnaces.
  • Load and unload castings into heat treat fixtures.
  • Load and unload heat treat fixtures into the furnace.
  • Perform quenching and cooling operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Expedite castings between the heat treat area and subsequent operational area.
  • Communication status of operation with subsequent shifts.
  • Hot straightening at extreme temperatures.
  • Employees are expected to work overtime as needed.
  • Perform other various duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to become certified
  • Able to change programs in Controllers
  • Able to use calipers and gauges
  • Capable of doing accurate labor reporting
  • Capable of doing multiple tasks
  • Mechanical Aptitude (TPM’s)
  • Organizational skills to maximize loads
  • Team Orientation
  • Basic knowledge of computers

Physical Demands

  • Clean work areas and maintain a clean work environment; perform 5S cleaning activities as required.
  • Lifting intermittently of various items for approximately 40% of the time. Typically, assistance would be provided for weights exceeding 35 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling when retrieving and moving various items.
  • Squatting/crouching when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, making equipment/product inspections, etc.
  • Stand for approximately 70% of the time
  • Withstand the rigors of a 12-hour shift for 4 days in a row
  • Long periods of standing

Work Environment

  • Duties are performed primarily in manufacturing areas where compliance with applicable safety rules is required.
  • Required to work near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level is moderate.
  • The employee will be subject to extreme heat during the summer months.

EHS Requirements

  • Attend all EHS training.
  • Comply with all department, facility, corporate, and regulatory EHS regulations.
  • Expected to assist in the implementation of EHS Values and policy statements and accompanying principles.
  • Report all job-related illnesses and injuries (Per Employee Handbook).
  • Report all safety, health, and environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
