The company is searching for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Power Support) who will operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment, use hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear, use micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.

Work Experience
- 2 years of verifiable experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in an industrial environment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Conducts assigned portions of inventories. Uses bar code wands, labeling equipment, laser scanning equipment, and/or computer terminals. May require a CAC for system access.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Duties may include related tasks associated with Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic and Motor Vehicle Mechanic SCA position descriptions.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- May weld broken parts and structural members with proper certifications.
- Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Operate tools and equipment in the performance of duties as approved by management.
- Performs all housekeeping and maintenance duties as needed to ensure workspace upkeep.
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
- Performs all other duties as assigned, requested, or related, unless otherwise excluded by this description or the established collective bargaining agreement.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Knowledge and proper use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
- Must be available for any shift, and must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
- Must be physically capable of lifting 45 pounds, standing on stepladders, and reaching overhead.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
- The position may require travel.
- The position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
- This position requires the candidate to pass a pre-employment physical examination and urinary analysis.
Work Environment
- Shop environments in which heavy equipment is operated, potentially loud environments, and some pieces of equipment have exposed moving components, frequent lifting up to 45 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness are required.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat.
- Regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
- Must be able to acknowledge and respond to emergency lights and sirens and be capable of wearing a protective mask
