Job Profile

The company is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Welder Fabricator who will be responsible for all aspects of maintenance and the repair of heavy and light equipment, including welding of metal components and structures in and out of the shops.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience or an associate degree or certification from an accredited diesel/heavy equipment technology program with 2 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience (required)
  • 3 years of experience in structural welding or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with remote North Slope operations.

License/Certification

  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC). Worley can provide NSTC certification training if needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to be covered by Worley auto insurer.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Analyze, diagnose, repair, rebuild, and provide maintenance of heavy and light-duty equipment such as hydraulic and lattice boom cranes, backhoes, motor graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, tractor-trailers, water, and vac trucks.
  • Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools, and pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Lay out, position, align, and fit components together.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using a cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.
  • Routinely operate Worley/client light or medium-duty vehicles.
  • Routinely perform safety and productivity observations: shop, field, vehicle, and equipment.
  • Safely climb ladders of various heights.
  • Select equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Work on engines, structural systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, and subassemblies such as transmissions and differentials.
  • Perform duties in the shop or in the field as necessary.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.
  • Ability to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.
  • Ability to maintain equipment maintenance records.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints/drawings, job descriptions, maintenance/safety/technical manuals, and safety/warning signs.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, including the tools and equipment used in the welding process.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternates.
  • Knowledge and ability to use diagnostic equipment and computers.
  • Knowledge of and experience in lubrication procedures for all types of heavy equipment common to heavy construction and oilfield service industries.
  • Knowledge of carbon steel and other alloy metals, including stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Knowledge of diesel theory, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment or light-duty equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the operation of welding equipment, electrodes, fluxes, shielding gases, and welding processes

Work Environment

  • Must have the ability to stand, walk on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, reach through low and high ranges, work overhead, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Driving for prolonged periods of time in the dark and inclement weather
  • Ability to climb scaffold, ramps, stairs, equipment, portable ladders, or wellhouse/tank/facility fixed ladders of 20 feet or greater.
  • Ability to wear and utilize fall protection within manufacturer specifications.
  • Lift 50 lbs. from the floor to the waist with two hands.
  • Lift 50 lbs. from the floor to the shoulder with two hands.
  • Carry 50 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.
  • Push/pull a 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet.
  • Push/pull a 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet.
