Job Profile

The company is hiring an HVAC Technician III who will work independently on assigned HVAC maintenance, repair, and construction tasks as required.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of facilities maintenance and HVAC systems maintenance tasks, processes
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical power fundamentals and troubleshooting as pertains to HVAC equipment.

License/Certification

  • Requires EPA universal technician certification

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Cleaning of condensate pans and drains
  • Cleaning of condenser coils, air handling equipment, and associated ductwork
  • Identifies repairs and maintenance for customers’ equipment that could be proposed for sales of additional services to the customer to provide longer equipment life, better comfort, or energy savings. Communicates these potential service opportunities to the Service Manager for proposal preparation by the appropriate party.
  • Inspection and testing of equipment wiring, safety, and electrical contractors.
  • Inspection and tune-up of gas-fired furnaces and unit heaters, including pilot assemblies, blowers, and heat exchangers.
  • Maintenance of all power accessories for HVAC equipment, including lubrication, adjustment, and inspection of bearings, shafts, seals, etc.
  • Perform refrigeration system tune-ups for Heat Pumps, Split A/C systems and larger Air Handling equipment: Audit of cooling system operations, verification of system refrigerant charge levels, system pressures, air flow, temperatures, and efficiency of cooling operations. Repair system leaks and recharge as necessary.
  • Repair or replacement of the above systems if determined to be defective or to upgrade for better energy efficiency and comfort for building occupants.
  • Replacement of equipment, air and water filters, and media pads in cooling and heating equipment
  • Replacement of V-Belts for fan assemblies
  • Seasonal startup and shutdown of Boilers and hot water generation equipment.
  • Seasonal startup and shutdown of central plant A/C equipment (chillers, cooling towers, etc.)
  • Sequence testing of automatic HVAC control systems – sensor verification, valve and actuator operation, and verification of programming sequence

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC service work at the Journeyman mechanic level
  • Completion of an approved HVAC technical training program or a similar 4-year technical program
  • EPA Universal Technician Certification
  • NCCER Certification is a plus
