Job Profile
The company is hiring an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic who will repair, maintain, and perform preventive/predictive maintenance on plant equipment.
Provides specialty support to the maintenance department and production departments throughout the facility.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Certification or Associate Degree (preferred)
- Successful completion of the apprenticeship program (strongly desired)
Work Experience
- Mechanic I – minimum 2 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Mechanic II – minimum 3-5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
Duties/Responsibilities
- Complies with all OSHA safety requirements, work rules, and regulations
- Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications
- Diagnose and repair computerized control systems, ignition systems, power steering, and cooling systems.
- Follows all safety and company policies/procedures and promotes a safe culture
- Maintain and secure work tools; Clean shop and work areas
- Maintain/propose standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job safety analysis (JSAs)
- Records and maintains production, repair, and equipment maintenance information for CMMS applications
- Repair, adjust, and replace brake systems including disc, hydraulic, and air brakes.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor
- Research and order parts using purchasing protocols
- Safely operate mobile machinery certified to use
- This position may interact with all levels of the Northwest Pipe organization. Additionally, this position may have contact with business partners, customers, vendors, visitors, or government agencies.
- Tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and cleaning and adjusting carburetors.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment
- Weld, fabricate, and assemble parts and accessories for heavy equipment
- Overhaul, repair, rebuild, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches; perform inspection of assigned equipment; repair and replace accessories on equipment.
- Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is necessary in order to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical difficulties on diesel-powered heavy construction
- And power-driven equipment including trucks, tractors, bulldozers, backhoes, and diesel trucks; diagnose the cause of malfunction using knowledge of electronic and mechanical test equipment.
- Other duties as directed and assigned
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, multitask, and work independently with attention to detail
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Ability to secure power and lock out equipment for maintenance procedures
- Ability to work against and meet deadlines
- Able to follow directions and meet deadlines.
- Fluid Power (pumps, valves, pneumatics, and seals) repair and maintenance
- HVAC&R
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance protocols and tools
- Managing one’s own time and taking initiative
- Must be able to use precision measuring equipment
- Must have all aspects of communications skills; interpersonal, written, and verbal, for dealing with all levels of associates, for writing reports, and for reading instructions and parts manuals. Based on the requirements of the Summary of Job Purpose indicated above for each mechanic category, one must also possess the following skills or aptitudes:
- Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: Hand tools, stationary equipment, vehicles
- Power transmission (bearings, brakes, clutches, drives, and lubrication) repair and maintenance
- Reading gauges and watching guides
- Steam generation and transmission
- Troubleshooting
- Use of precision measuring equipment
- Use of test equipment
