Job Profile
The company is recruiting an Inside Machinist III who will manufacture, repair, and overhaul various types of systems and components associated with submarine and surface ships.
Set up and operate all types of machining tools, lathes, mills, grinders, and saws.
Education Level
- High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses or technical school graduate;
Work Experience
- Military or civilian experience with machining parts/components in a repair/manufacturing department or shipyard
License/Certification
- Off-site in place machining, NAVSEA Hatch Inspector, Electroplating, Water-Jet Operations, CNC Programming, Deep Submergence Systems (SOC MCD A, B, and C), SUBSAFE Qualification
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to machine complex parts to close tolerances, ensuring that the finish requirements of the drawing specifications are achieved the first time through.
- Expert proficiency in reading complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, technical work documents, measuring and marking dimensions and reference points on material, selecting proper tooling, attachments, and accessories, as well as manufacturing fixtures to hold work pieces.
- Expert working knowledge of all feed and speed rates and machining characteristics of various materials.
- Must be able to perform the set up and operation of all machines (lathes, mills, grinders, saws, etc.) and hand tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use all precision measuring instruments such as outside diameter and inside diameter micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools and possess the ability to accurately record readings and measurements.
- Requires no supervision and is an expert in all tasks and qualifications required as an Inside Machinist.
- Will have the ability to manufacture complex components from stock or modify parts following all drawing requirements.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Knowledge and practical skills tests required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
- Must be able to obtain a confidential-level security clearance.
- Must have the ability to obtain government base access.
- Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, a high level of critical thinking/reading comprehension, and overtime are required.
Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases
- Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment
- Includes exposure to contaminants
- Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
- Involves heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending, and possible working assignments in overhead structures, confined spaces, or beneath machinery.
- Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
- Light is intense/glare
- Noise is over 85 decibels
- Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks
- Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night
- Requires working in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures
- Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions
- When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%
