Job Profile
The company is seeking a Journeyman Pipefitter to perform a variety of maintenance and repair activities on all sizes of pipes and valves in a large paper mill.
Inspects worksite, plans activities, selects tools and replacement parts, cuts, welds, disassembles, and assembles parts.
Contact management, engineering, and vendors regarding new machinery/equipment selection, specifications, and set-up.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
Work Experience
- 3+ years of experience working in an industrial maintenance environment as a journey-level Pipefitter and previous experience in a pulp and paper mill would be considered a plus.
- Experience welding carbon and stainless steel
- Formal apprenticeship or education (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assembly of components with some fabrication of equipment as needed for the job.
- Fabricate and assemble screwed piping and tubing, fit weld pipe or butt weld pipe, and associated brackets using blueprints and specifications within tolerance.
- Layout and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe, or templates.
- Operate cutting equipment.
- Perform a variety of maintenance-related tasks in connection with the maintenance department.
- Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Read or sketch blueprints/drawings and perform your fit-ups.
- Repair or make improvements to equipment related to pulp and paper manufacturing processes.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machines, welding equipment, tube bending machines, and various power tools
- Selecting the type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, knowledge of system operation, and study of building plans/working drawings.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and interpret technical documents, and operate moderately complex software and web-based programs.
- Climbing ladders, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting in varying temperatures (hot/cold) Must agree to complete a sub-journeyman training program through training and testing provided by the company to reach Journeyman level status.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer-focused and a flexible, positive attitude.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision or direction.
