Job Profile

The company is searching for a Junior Building Science Specialist to join the Canada Infrastructure Built Environment group.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil/Structural Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science, or Applied Science
  • Certified as welding inspector with the Canadian Welding Bureau (an asset)
  • Currently registered as a P.Eng. with the Professional Engineers of Ontario

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with structural systems, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
  • Experienced in design for retrofit construction
  • Experienced in preparation of tender document plans and specifications
  • Experienced in site reviews and contracts administration
  • Experienced with building envelope design, construction methods, and materials

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Administer contracts and manage projects
  • Carry out building envelope, field inspection, testing, and reporting
  • Effectively communicate with clients, team staff, and management
  • Initiate in the development of new business
  • Perform Building Condition Assessments (BCA) for existing buildings
  • Perform site investigations, evaluations, and retrofit and restoration of designs of existing building envelope systems
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and tender documents
  • Review building envelope systems on new construction of municipal, healthcare, commercial, transit, and industrial projects

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Building Science Specialist (BSS) professional is considered a plus
  • Knowledgeable in the field of building sciences and thermal performance analysis
  • Knowledgeable of CAD tools
  • Knowledgeable with service life analysis and costing for structural and building envelope component repairs or replacement
  • Knowledgeable of the Ontario Building Code and other relevant building envelope standards
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada at the time of application
  • Proven business development success
  • Sound project management skills in areas of cost control, administration, planning, and client relationships
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid driver license
