Job Profile

The company is seeking a Light Vehicle Technician II (VMF) to join its team.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should be High School Graduates or GED (required)

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair (required)
  • 4 years of experience with maintenance and repair in addition to one summer or winter Antarctic deployment working as a light vehicle technician.
  • 2 years of training at a technical school (preferred)
  • Car dealership experience on a broad range of vehicles, specifically Ford (preferred)
  • Previous experience with remote polar operations (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Complies with all Environmental, Safety, Health, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.
  • Inspects services and repairs light vehicles and equipment according to schedule.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records on inspections completed and work performed.
  • Operates recovery vehicle and performs recovery functions, sometimes outdoors under extreme environmental conditions.
  • Operates shop equipment including welders, overhead cranes, compressors, presses, and wheel alignment equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and service.
  • Performs quality work in a timely manner and accurately records service performed.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority.
  • Uses diagnostic procedures and test equipment to identify and correct equipment faults.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy picking” (cleaning up around the station), recycling efforts, and safety objectives.
  • PAE covers all program-related expenses for travel to and from Antarctica as well as housing and food while deployed.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
  • A valid driver’s license (required)
  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods (required)
