Job Profile

The company is looking for a Machine Operator who will work as follows-

Sets up and operates all machinery in the machine shop including lathe, mill, drill press, saws, and horizontal boring, to perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, boring, cutting, broaching, and reaming metal workpieces.

Completes daily housekeeping to ensure a clean, safe work area.

Completes all work in a safe manner with quality and productivity in mind.

Educational Qualification

Work Experience

  • Possess 3 to 6 months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment and knowledge of machine programs. Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines. Responsible to make recommendations on required tooling.
  • Complete scheduled work and tasks within the time allotted or if unable to, Supervisor must be notified.
  • Continuously increase the manufacturing capability production process.
  • Excellent attendance/reliability and willingness to work overtime when necessary according to the contract guidelines.
  • Follows established procedures for accurate inventory control.
  • Keep the work area clean, work in a safe manner, and comply with plant safety rules and regulations at all times.
  • Lays out reference lines and machining locations on the workpiece, according to blueprints. Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with his/her fellow associates and supervisor and keeps his/her supervisor advised of all situations within the work area.
  • Moves the controls to set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other, verifying position visually, with instruments, and by reading dials.
  • Operates manufacturing computer system in relation to timecard and shop order data entry. Performs daily maintenance and troubleshoots machines to ensure proper performance.
  • Operates tracing attachment to duplicate contours from templates or models. Operates machine with automatic positioning controls.
  • Participate in required OSHA training and other safety training as required.
  • Perform set-up requirements, locate parts correctly, and adjust and operate machines in the correct sequence to perform precision machining operations.
  • Recommend proposals for improving products, processes, systems, productivity, and work environment (Continuous Improvement Process).
  • Report any machine, tooling, or fixture problems to Supervisor immediately.
  • Responsible for following lockout/tagout procedure.
  • Responsible for the quality of parts you produce and responsible for reporting any nonconforming parts to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Saws material as required according to specifications using the most efficient means
  • Set up saws as required. Can identify raw materials properly and use appropriate measuring tools when required.
  • Starts machine and observes operation, making one or more trial passes with manual control before engaging feed.
  • Studies machining instructions, sample parts, blueprint drawings, process sheets, manuals, specifications, and layouts on workpieces to determine dimensions, tolerances, machining required, sequence of operation, tooling, feed, and speed rate. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
  • Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Verifies dimensions of machined workpieces with such measuring instruments as micrometers, telescoping gauges, vernier calipers, and dial indicators. Works to a tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches.
  • Write new programs and modify existing programs to meet the requirements of processes. Program and ability to machine tight tolerance parts. Proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, deburring, and 100% inspection of quality parts for conformance to specifications.
  • Performs work within labor standards for job assignments.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, written work instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
