Job Profile

The company is looking for a Machine Operator V who will assist in various daily manufacturing production activities across multiple departments within the plant.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (highly desirable but not required)

Work Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to accurately use and read a tape measure.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business needs.
  • Actively participate in department safety, and demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors, which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

  • Forklift Certification.
  • Knowledge of department and plant processes
  • Knowledge of production equipment\handheld tools used in the department in a professional manner (Spinner, Iron Worker, Ring Roller, Spiral Roller, Parts Washer, and Mig and Stick Welding.
  • Maintains an attitude that unlawful or unethical actions are not accepted.
  • Operate Spinner and complete inspections.
  • Participate in Lean manufacturing, Gemba, and 5S
  • Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Perform strenuous activities for a moderate duration.
  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Understand mixes, hydraulic pumps and pressures, flow path, and comprehension of equipment clean up.
  • Performs other duties directed by leaders and management.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to communicate and interact with coworkers professionally.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend the daily layout sheet and install the correct size spiral wire in the mold to match the mold section’s dimensions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend the engineered drawing and determine the correct type and length of demold and install correctly while it is flush and secured in place at the tip of the tension plate with tie wire.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Ability to read, measure, and install the false plate per the engineered drawing.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business needs.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business needs.
  • Appropriately apply a thin layer of oil to coat mold skin from tip to butt
  • Articulate the difference in chuck bodies and wedges and install them correctly onto the mold strand.
  • Assist with general plant clean-up and housekeeping.
  • Communicate and interact with coworkers professionally.
  • Communicate problems or needs to departmental supervision.
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Must be willing to become forklift certified.
  • Obtains initial stress jack certification from EHS.
  • Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • Remove all debris and foreign material from mold.
  • This position reports to the Department Supervisor

Working Conditions

  • Ability to be company-trained and authorized to operate equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds, although the most frequent lift is up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to spend 75% of the workday standing or walking, 10% bending or kneeling, 10% stooping, and 5% climbing.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business needs.
  • High awareness for safety with the ability to wear all required PPE and work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as with exposure to the outdoors
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
  • Self-motivated ability to be internally inspired to perform tasks to the best of one’s ability using his or her drive or initiative.
