Job Profile
The company is hiring a Machinist who will set up and operate manual and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) power machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, planers, and other related machine shop tools and grinders.
Plan, layout, machine, and assemble parts and tools to the required precision tolerances.
Work independently or as part of a team, repair, maintain, perform modifications and alterations on Support Equipment (SE) and containers.
Education Level
- Vocational Education related to sheet metal/machining or CNC machining/programming
Work Experience
- Experience operating a forklift
- Experience operating an overhead crane
- Experience with spray painting equipment
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Experience working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys; non-metallic materials; new, unproven materials.
- Experience working with layout dye, cerrobend, lubricants and cutting oils, solvents, screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, parts, and accessories
- Machining experience to include CNC machining
- Maintenance and repair experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine utilizing conversational programming and related software.
- As required, operate power-forming or cutting equipment to work and form sheet metal stock into desired specifications and characteristics.
- Layout, fabricate, and assemble intricate precision parts and assemblies, sheet metal items, and shop tooling devices, including small dies, jigs, and fixtures, incidental to work being performed to exacting tolerances or extremely close dimensions.
- Perform bench work, finishing, assembling, and fitting. Perform grinding operations on cutting tools and parts.
- Program milling machines and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and condition switches. Calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Set up and operate machine tools and metal fabricating machines, to completely and independently perform any operation within their capacity.
- Work from complex detail blueprints, sketches, templates, master models, or verbal instructions, and use precision-gauge instruments in projecting and laying out angular and linear dimensions.
- Work from sketches and drawings in fabricating and assembling to exacting tolerances, small intricate assemblies, exercising extreme care to ensure proper adjustments, clearances, and alignments.
- Required to become qualified as a machinist.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus as required.
- Including weekends, if necessary.
- Willingness to work shift work and overtime,
- Ability to work on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys; non-metallic materials; new, unproven materials.
- Ability to work with layout dye, cerrobend, lubricants and cutting oils, solvents, screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, parts, and accessories.
- Must be able to perform basic Service Mechanic functions with applicable job training, such as equipment maintenance, testing, repairs, and modifications. Ability to operate metal working and machine working tools, spray painting equipment, and weight testing handling equipment.
- Must possess a complete knowledge of machine shop theory, practice, and procedure, and advanced shop mathematics. Have a good knowledge of sheet metal operations. Must be able to set up and operate all basic types of machine and hand tools, as required. Must have comprehensive knowledge and application of precision measuring equipment. Ability to apply a comprehensive knowledge of shop techniques necessary to work metals to the required specifications without conventional tooling. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and assembly drawings, and to work from incomplete engineering verbal, written, and sketch information.
- Skilled in the use of computers and ability to learn new computer applications
- Must be a United States Citizen. No dual citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance. Must have interim Secret Clearance before starting.
