Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Machinist B (Punch Press) who will set up and operate various types of machines and equipment to produce parts to close tolerance specifications and set up charts.

Supply own measuring and gauging equipment.

Complies with all safety rules.

Educational Level

Work Experience

  • 1+ years in a tool shop environment, intro to machining, milling process courses completed at trade school (preferred)
  • Emphasis in stampings and six-month press die setup or machine repair experience (preferred)
  • Prior CNC experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operate die cart and crane to move and lift dies
  • Plans and arranges machining sequence, and confirms tool design intent by utilizing various measuring instrumentation to close tolerances.
  • Set up and operate various types of tool rooms and punch press equipment
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose forming problems with progressive stamping dies

Essential Duties-

  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Complete general maintenance and cleaning on dies
  • Completes tooling changes, sharpening, and repair in die
  • Drill Sharpening
  • Grinding
  • Maintain housekeeping standards
  • Operates PIVs
  • Tool design and hand sharpening (cutting tools)
  • Upkeep of machines, minor maintenance
  • Work with and understand blueprints with close tolerance

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deal with several abstracts and concrete variables.
  • Basic computer skills to enter data and look up job information
  • Mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, and divide), practical application of percentages and ratios
  • Practical algebra, geometric construction, and essentials of trigonometry
  • Solve problems with the engineering team with die design and improvement recommendations
  • Write instructions in moderate to simple sentences to provide manufacturing information. Must be able to communicate technical information between tool design and manufacturing activities.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting and carrying 5-35 pounds regularly; occasionally lifting 35+ pounds, use of crane for heavy loads
  • Use of eyes to visually check machines and parts
  • Use of hands, arms, and fingers, reaching regularly, feeling, grasping
  • Walking, standing, and bending

PPE

  • Cut resistant gloves
  • Face shields
  • Hearing protection
  • Other additional PPE may be required
  • Safety shoes – slip-resistant and safety toe

Working Conditions

  • Inside the working environment, on the production floor; the floor becomes slippery with oil. Noise levels on the production floor require hearing protection, temperature fluctuates depending on the season.
  • Working around powered industrial vehicles.
  • Working with and around oil and chemicals.
