Job Profile
The company is seeking a Machinist/Piler Mechanic who will be responsible for the day-to-day machining and mechanical issues within the Michigan Sugar Agricultural Maintenance Department by pushing for continuous improvement within your area of responsibility to become more efficient with less downtime while continuing to produce a quality product.
To support the shift-to-shift department operations as needed.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Possess a Certificate or Degree in machining/millwright from a Trade School or College
- Chauffeur License or ability to obtain one
Work Experience
- Possess prior machinist experience of 5 years or more in machining, millwright work, and welding and fabrication
Duties/Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in special training and familiarization workshops dealing with updates or changes in piling ground equipment operations, repairs, and maintenance.
- Ensures that working conditions are safe at all times and support all related safety guidelines as needed.
- Help maintain compliance with good manufacturing practices and safety standards.
- Must have strong skills in the care of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work.
- Must look for ways to improve productivity from a mechanical perspective. With the support of crew members and management implement new ideas that will reduce downtime, breakdowns, or failure in the mechanical systems.
- Responsible for all repairs of the pilers, ventilation, and any other related equipment in the event of breakdowns to reduce downtime. These items, due to the nature of daily operations, may include the following: machining, welding, mechanical, and pneumatic within the boundaries of each district or their responsibilities. The previous list is not limited and may change at any time.
- Responsible for understanding all operations of Agriculture beet receiving and monitoring. Must be capable of training new members on the proper repair of existing as well as new equipment when necessary.
- Supports an accurate parts inventory at all times for all pieces of equipment.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Flexibility to travel to all other job sites to perform required maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Have the ability to effectively communicate concerns related to Machining (tool and die), preventative maintenance, mechanical breakdowns, and any other concerns to management and other maintenance employees as needed.
- Have the ability to support equipment management processes to ensure piler equipment efficiencies, improve key performance indicators, and eliminate downtime as needed.
- Must effectively communicate with other crew members, foreman, or supervisor during shift changes as it pertains to downtime items, repairs, updates, lessons learned, anytime the following shift could potentially be impacted when necessary.
