Job Profile

The company (Hitachi Astemo) is looking for a Machinist Specialist to join its team.

Educational Level

  • Must have a Machine Tool Technology Degree or Equivalent preferably 5 years of Journeyman experience.

Work Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of journeyman experience as a machinist

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Analyzes operational problems and develops modifications in design to improve efficiency.
  • Continuous improvement to reduce the number of defects produced on each line.
  • Heat, treat, and weld certain parts as required.
  • Maintain inventory of certain spare parts by reproducing and ensuring that there are always parts available for use.
  • Must be able to process NC or CNC programming and machining.
  • Must be able to use an EDM machine to make or modify parts
  • Plan the setup and operations of various maintenance tools, considering types of materials, tolerances, and machine tool feed and speeds.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, hand sketches, reverse engineering, or verbal or written instructions.
  • Use precision measuring tools, (calipers, micrometers, hardness testers, height gages, etc.) Use general shop tools, hand tools, and shop equipment. (Lathes, Mills, Surface Grinders, Cylinder Grinder, and EDM)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be able to work under pressure situations when required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. (daily or weekends)
  • Must have a clear understanding of reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings. Also, understand drawing symbols.
  • Must have a good mechanical aptitude and understanding of how mechanical mechanism function.

Physical Demands

  • Required to sit or stand and move about the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and move equipment or supplies in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Individuals must be able to distinguish colors.

Work Environment

  • A combination of office and plant environment.
  • Required to use safety glasses and wear steel-toe shoes while performing specific tasks or while in specific manufacturing areas.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians in repairs of Production Equipment when required.
