Job Profile
The company is searching for a Machinist/Thread Roll Operator who will set up, run, monitor, and troubleshoot the high-volume fastener manufacturing machines/processes such as flat die thread rolling, drill/broach, and fillet roll machines within a highly automated aerospace fastener manufacturing line.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED with experience or vocational/technical certification required.
- Associate’s Degree (preferred)
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years CNC/PLC machine tool experience; experience with thread rolling machinery such as SACMA Ingramatic, Waterbury, Reed, Hartford, or cold heading machinery, such as National, Carlo Salvi, etc. in a fast-paced environment (highly preferred)
- Prior experience of operating FANUC robots (a plus)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Adjust machine setup/controls to synchronize machine actions for various operations as well as ensure parts produced are within specifications.
- Detect machine malfunctions and verify that machine setups conform to specifications.
- Perform developmental set-ups and prototyping on new parts.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections with visual and other inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, etc. to ensure adherence to quality specifications.
- Read blueprints to determine specified tolerances and sequences of operations for machine setup.
- Remove tooling from machines when production runs are finished.
- Repair, maintain, or replace tooling when worn, broken, or out of tolerance.
- Set up and operate machines that automatically perform multi-operations.
- Use forklift and hand truck to bring and remove supplies as needed.
- Work safely by adhering to relevant Environmental, Safety and Health (EH&S) procedures and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Blueprint Reading: Capability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
- Machine Tool Knowledge: Familiarity with using and programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (such as lathes and grinders).
- Material Understanding: Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials.
- Precision Skills: Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements.
Required Skills
- Ability to multitask and keep multiple machines running concurrently to specifications.
- Ability to set up in-process inspection equipment such as Force monitors (Marposs), touch probes, etc., interpret results, and determine response actions.
- Ability to set up and maintain high-precision CNC/PLC forming and machining centers with a very high degree of repeatability by following standard work instructions.
- Able to work overtime as needed.
- Adjust machine setups, offsets, and change tooling as required to ensure compliance with product and quality requirements.
- Familiarity with shop floor ERP systems to correctly interpret work orders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
- Frequent lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or adjust equipment.
- Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed work boots or shoes.
- Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
- Standing for prolonged periods – up to 8 hours or more per day.
