Job Profile

The company is looking for a  Maintenance Boilermaker who will assemble and disassemble, erect, and repair boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, exchangers, and heaters according to blueprint specifications.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants may be required a High School Diploma
  • NCCER (highly preferred)

Work Experience

  • Possess 4 years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Locates and marks reference points for columns and plates on the foundation.
  • Attaches rigging or signals crane operator to lift parts to the specified position.
  • Aligns structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frames, tanks, or vats.
  • Hammers, flame-cuts, files, or grinds irregular edges of sections or structural parts to facilitate fitting edges together.
  • Bolts structures and sections together.
  • Positions drums and headers into supports or bolts support to the frame.
  • Aligns water tubes and connects and expands tube ends to drums and headers.
  • Bolts casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles, and such fabricated parts as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, feeding tubes, catwalks, ladders, coal hoppers, and safety hatch to frame.
  • Installs trays in process towers, install manholes, valves, gauges, and feedwater connection in drums to complete assembly of water tube boilers.
  • Assists in testing assembled vessels.

Qualification Standards-

  • Written pre-employment qualification test
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Hazard Communication orientation/test
  • Turner Industries Group, LLC indoctrination
  • OSHA-approved corrective eyewear (Z87)
  • Job site orientation
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)

Tools/Equipment

  • May be required to provide the following: toolbox, crescent wrenches, tape, spud wrenches, hammer, tri square, striker, burning goggles, tip cleaners, work gloves, framing square, level, torpedo level, center punch, channel locks, set of combination wrenches, pipe wrench, hacksaw, rain suit.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must have a valid driver’s license,
  • Be available to work overtime and callouts as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffold structures, etc.
  • Coordinating the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, or overhead.
  • Reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, crawling, seeing with or without correction, hearing with or without correction

Mental Involvement

  • Applying basic mathematical skills
  • Comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects
  • Following oral or written directions, plans, and blueprints, reading, writing, ability to recognize and report safety hazards
  • Following set procedures and standards
  • Picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked
  • Planning work and selecting the proper tools

Work Environment

  • Industrial construction sites – uneven ground level, obstructed pathways, work performed at low or high elevations, work performed in confined areas
  • Predominately outdoor climate, and may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc., various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc., potential exposure to chemical substances
