Job Profile

The company is searching for a Maintenance Mechanic who will work under general supervision such as building, maintaining, and repairing production equipment for all departments as required.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Post-Secondary Mechanical Education (preferred).

Work Experience

  • Possess work-related experience (a plus)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and identify mechanical failures and performs repairs on production facilities equipment as required.
  • Document time spent and parts used on projects by completing time records through the use of Maximo along with maintaining an inventory of replacement parts, equipment, and maintenance requirements.
  • Installs new equipment and aligns equipment for production use as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment, operations, and processes throughout the plant.
  • Participates in Daily Safety Toolbox Talks.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements.
  • Performs emergency/repair
  • Performs preventative maintenance (PM) duties on production equipment, vehicles, locomotives, and material handling, and conducts regular inspections of production equipment to determine immediate and future maintenance requirements.
  • Provide work direction to less experienced Maintenance Mechanics or assist in training.
  • Rebuilds pumps, motors, seals, gearboxes, and similar production equipment. May recommend purchase decisions with the department lead or supervisor.
  • Welding tasks as required.
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Complete all on-the-job training books along with web-based training to be a fully qualified Mechanic II.
  • Become CPR/First Aid qualified.
  • Participate in the Respirator program (preferred)
  • Willing and able to perform tasks at high elevations.
  • Identify, understand, and have the ability to communicate plant hazards with others.
  • Complete all required safety training and also follow and display knowledge of all safety procedures.
  • Have a general understanding of how to use a computer and email.
  • Communicate effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email.
  • Must stay motivated and show initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision.
  • Display quality work through strong attention to detail.
  • Work with a team orientation by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
  • Work overtime as necessary including nights and weekends.
  • Provide shift coverage.
  • Meet requests for supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed.
  • Utilize trucks, forklifts, computers, hand tools, testing equipment, JLG lifts, wiring, rigging, and other tools or equipment correctly.
  • Able to meet physical requirements and perform duties in the working conditions listed.

Working Conditions

  • Atmosphere exposure: fumes, odors, dust, gas, and poor ventilation. Due to the wide variety of tasks in all production areas, this position is exposed to many atmospheres.
  • Duties performed inside and outside
  • Hazard exposure: mechanical, electrical, and explosive. Extreme heat is also encountered in production areas during the summer months.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures and humid conditions
  • May perform tasks in tight spaces.
  • Often working performing tasks at high elevations always with the use of proper PPE.
  • Protective Clothing Required: Hardhat, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes/boots, gloves, cut-resistant sleeves, winter gear, high visibility vests, and fall protection.
  • Shift varies- an average of 40/42 hours a week. The work schedule may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to ascend/descend many flights of stairs or ladders
  • Be on your feet walking/moving around the majority of a typical work day
  • Lifting may consist of continuously carrying, or pushing carts of tools and replacement parts from the maintenance shop to production areas
  • Move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Position self to conduct work at various heights and positions
  • Repetitive use of limbs such as manipulation of levers by hands to operate maintenance truck along with the use of feet to operate pedals for truck, forklift, JLG lift
