Job Profile
The company is looking for a Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings, wastewater treatment plant equipment, machines, and machine tools.
Possess a working knowledge of electrical and control systems and have reached a high level of competency within a specific trade or discipline (e.g. welding, millwright, mechanics), but will have a functioning ability level in multiple areas.
Be responsible for guiding and training less experienced personnel in areas of expertise.
Educational Level
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
- 2 years of related education at a college, trade school, or equivalent may be substituted for experience.
Work Experience
- 3-5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic, electrician, or HVAC technician.
- Completion of recognized Apprenticeship program.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Fabricate parts or install, adjust, dismantle, and reassemble machines and plant equipment.
- May provide support to other skilled trades employees.
- Observe all on-the-job safety regulations.
- Operate and use hoists, lifts, air hammers, masonry drills, grinders, welders, cutting equipment, and other power and hand tools to safely accomplish assigned tasks.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of plant equipment as assigned.
- Perform welding functions on buildings and equipment in the treatment plant including repair and fabrication work.
- Provides assistance and direction to less experienced Electro mechanics or assigned helpers.
- Repair and maintain pumps, valves, motors, and other process equipment. Perform “cold” electrical connect and disconnects as part of the repair and maintenance functions. Installs electrical conduit and pulls and terminates low voltage wire connections.
- Replenish parts and supplies using standard purchasing procedures. Maintain manual or computerized work orders and records as directed.
- Responsible for general housekeeping of maintenance shop, job sites, work areas, and other areas as assigned including, but not limited to sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning, and painting as necessary to maintain areas to Company standards.
- Responsible for inspecting and ensuring that all assigned projects completed by direct crews are completed fully and accurately.
- Set up and proficiently operate machine tools to design, make, and repair mechanisms and equipment, such as shafts, bushings, sleeves, gears, bearings, and other related parts as assigned.
- Set up and proficiently operate various tools including, but not limited to lathes, contour saws, cutoff saws, hand/bench/surface grinders, milling machines, spray welders, gas welders, and various hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Study specifications such as blueprints, electrical schematics, line diagrams, sketches, or descriptions of parts to be replaced, and plan the sequence of operations.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to cut with a cutting torch and an arc rod and ability to solder and weld.
- Ability to manipulate and understand the required functions of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Knowledge of treatment plant electrical and control systems, machine equipment operations as well as proper procedures for maintenance and repair of such facilities.
- Knowledge or ability to safely operate electrical test equipment, conduit bender, grinders, nibblers, angle iron cutter, hydraulic press, hoist, and other hand or power tools equipment related to the job.
- Must be familiar with all safety regulations and be prepared to work in and supervise confined space entry, and LOTO procedures.
Certification/Licenses
- A valid NYS driver’s license (required)
Work Environment
- May work on slippery/uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, and ladder/scaffolding, below ground, and may be exposed to water and other liquid materials.
- Maintain a high level of focus on health, safety, and the environment, ensuring safety within all activities.
- May be occasionally exposed to some noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents, and vibrations.
- Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
