Job Profile

The company is seeking a Maintenance Weld Technician who will work independently and confers regularly.

Supports manufacturing by improving department efficiency in a safe, high-quality, and productive manner.

Accountable for quality and housekeeping goals by following through on open issues and ensuring that corrective action plans are in place.

Responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the efficiency and reliability of all company tooling, production equipment, and processes.

Works under the general direction of the Shift Supervisor.

Educational Qualification

 

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of Fanuc or two years of other robot experience (required)
  • Minimum of 1 year of Spot and MIG welding whether manual or automated assembly
  • Experience in the cut and etch processes (an asset)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Attends departmental and plant-wide communication meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends training as scheduled.
  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).
  • Complies with, and supports Magna’s operational procedures, policies, Employee Handbook, Magna’s Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner
  • Keeps work area clean and organized
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion and tact
  • Understanding of the 5S practices and methodology

Essential Functions-

  • Analyzes, records, and charts data required for maintenance records and projects. Helps to establish benchmarks and shares improvement opportunities with department Maintenance Shift Leader.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining preventative and predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Completes repairs, modifications, and installations as required.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities, especially regarding systems improvements and optimization. Documents improvements and analyzes data to ensure effective implementation.
  • Department support for testing, repairing, and calibrating electric or electronic components. Validates reliability issues with components and investigate repeat component failures.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from all interested parties
  • Enters all breakdown details (including pictures) into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in a timely manner.
  • Helps to prepare drawings and create material specifications for requisitions to vendors as required.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks as laid out by the division and the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Provides plant support in troubleshooting process problems including root cause analysis. Completes quality improvements as required to maintain high part quality.  Participates in cross-functional teams to address reliability issues.
  • Services, maintains, repairs, installs, and tests new or existing equipment and verifies conformance to specifications. (robot/welding/fixtures)
  • Supports the implementation of cross-functional training of repair procedures.
  • Works with production team members and other support groups, including vendors (both parts and equipment suppliers).
  • Other duties as required.

Equipment/Tools Used

  • Some of the equipment and tools used are computers, telephones, FANUC robot

Technical Training

  • Bosch Training
  • Fanuc Robotics Training
  • Training for equipment including electrical, mechanical, tooling, etc.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to interact well with co-workers and promote the “Team” attitude.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Mig, spot, projection, and laser welding
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages and proportions
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
  • Able to obtain and retain a valid passport is required
  • Able to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instructions, procedures, and guidelines
  • Able to understand, anticipate and follow directions while exercising maturity of judgment.
  • Capable in necessary computer use and computer software to perform the job
  • Has great time-management skills; including prioritizing and meeting deadlines with limited direct supervision

Physical Demands

  • Able to work off a ladder, aerial lift, or plant roof at heights up to 40 feet off ground level.
  • Comfortable working with power-cutting tools, torches, air chisels, and ultra-sonic weld inspection equipment.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. multiple times and unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, walking, or sweeping for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to elements such as hot/cold temperatures and noise during time spent in the plant.
  • Must be able to safely operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and floor scrubbers.
  • Overtime and shift rotation may be required to meet production expectations.
  • Travel, on rare occasions, may be required with occasional overnight accommodation at various locations.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment and with a variable workload.
